Nike: a logistics centre with reduced energy consumption thanks to Tractebel Engineering
A search for efficiency at all levels – materials, volume, types of energy, energy consumption, lighting etc. – enabled Tractebel Engineering to design a distribution centre for Nike Belgium that was twice as energy-efficient as a traditional warehouse.
By reducing as much as possible the consumption of materials, energy, water and even space in the future centre, Tractebel Engineering was able to come up with a “pared down” building design. An innovative construction concept made it possible to reduce the amount of metal used in the warehouse structure by one third; a study on future use of the building enabled lighting to be optimised; under-floor heating linked up to a ventilation and “natural” air conditioning (not mechanical air conditioning) system means that energy consumption can be reduced considerably.
