Karina, social responsibility coordinator at EnerSur
Karina Recavarren has always worked in the energy sector. She’s now social responsibility coordinator at EnerSur, based in Ilo, Peru. Her daily goal? To manage social and environmental issues involving EnerSur, and to facilitate two-way communication with local communities.
Originally trained as an accountant, Karina is proud of the job she now does as social responsibility coordinator at ENGIE subsidiary company EnerSur, and her role as the interface with the City of Ilo and local people.
In a country where economic growth has been driven by energy sector growth, EnerSur is keen to balance its role as a major contributor to the economy with its social responsibilities. That’s the job of Karina, and one of the examples she gives is the initiative she has set up to train the fishermen of Ilo in welding skills. This training has helped them to gain a new source of income during the half of the year when there is no fishing. Her environmental goal is to promote energy efficiency and energy savings by making children aware of the issues involved at an early age.
For Karina, who prefers to work with people in the field rather than in an office, these missions are fundamental to her love for the job. “I especially enjoy my job when I have the possibility of finding a balance between social issues and company issues,” she explains.
