The itinerary offered at the institut du Monde Arabe until March 29, 2009 parallels the history of GDF SUEZ. After showing the richness of Arab heritage and culture and retracing the complexity of the encounter between East and West, the exhibition ends with the adventure of the Suez Canal.
150 years ago, the Compagnie Universelle du canal maritime de Suez was born. In 1859, the Company mobilised know-how, technological innovation, capital, and public and private partners to create the first private company licensed to provide a major public service. They had to reinvent construction site organisation and build whole urban centres equipped with essential infrastructures (water, power, etc.).
The exhibition at the institut du Monde Arabe brings to life this key episode in the history of GDF SUEZ. In boarding the rich history of its great enterprises (SUEZ, Gaz de France, Lyonnaise des Eaux, Société Générale de Belgique, Tractebel, Electrabel, etc.), the Group is today one of the world leaders in the energy sector.
