The lights themselves contribute to the urban aesthetic sought by elected representatives and their fellow citizens.
Smart street lighting infrastructures also create a veritable nervous system for the urban space, made ever smarter thanks to digital technology. This system, which tightly interlinks the city’s spaces, is an ideal support into which WiFi, 5G, videoprotection equipment or air quality sensors can be integrated, with perfect compatibility.
Finally, local authorities expect these infrastructures to be more reliable and more energy-efficient, to help them control their operating costs and respect the environment. Reducing electricity consumption, supplying green energy, reducing light pollution and architectural integration are all aspects that need to be taken into account in terms of environmental impact.

Renovation of street lighting under a lease with option to purchase contract
Montargis, the second biggest town in the Loiret department after Orléans, wants to offer residents and visitors convivial places to meet, take a break and communicate, and a better quality of life. ENGIE Solution proposes to improve street lighting, replacing 2,657 light points with LED bulbs. A €1.5 million lease contract with a 5-year purchase option. This lighting replacement will enable the town of Montargis to make energy savings of 70%.
The Livin’ solution to regulate urban traffic
In Brazil, the city of Niteroi in the Rio conurbation is facing one of the major challenges that fast-growing metropolises need to address: road traffic congestion. To improve traffic flow and give its residents a better quality of life, the city has embarked on an ambitious automated, real-time smart urban traffic management programme with the Livin' solution, developed by ENGIE, to bring the Smart city to life.

Modernisation of street lighting thanks to a 20-year partnership
As part of a 20-year public-private partnership, ENGIE is modernising, improving the efficiency of, developing, operating and managing the maintenance of the city’s street lighting network. The partnership schedules the modernisation of more than 87 street lighting units with LED technology, generating energy savings of at least 49.39%.
