ENERGY OBSERVER plans its odyssey for 2020
For the third year in succession, ENGIE is proud to be supporting ENERGY OBSERVER on its worldwide odyssey.
Just a few months after returning from its grand tour of Northern Europe, the first autonomous hydrogen-powered zero-emission ship is back at sea and embarking on a four-year round-the-world voyage! Between eight and twelve sailors, engineers and reporters will take turns on board the vessel, starting in 2020 with Morocco, Panama, Hawaii and Tokyo. Then the crew will sail thousands of nautical miles to California. We’ll share their life on board with you. These legendary ports of call will also be an opportunity to discover a new village dedicated to on-shore events and exhibitions.
During their human odyssey, the adventurers will meet stakeholders in change acting for greener energies, for the protection of biodiversity or for solidarity in the combat to help populations with no access to water, food, education or energy. ENERGY OBSERVER has even been designated as the first French ambassador for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the UN in order to convey France’s message on the need to preserve the planet and inspire the greatest number of players.
Once again this year, this floating laboratory of the energies of the future will be developing new technological prowess: it will be equipped with a more accessible and more efficient fuel cell with a maximum power of 114 kW, wind propulsion wings called Oceanwings® and new vertical, flexible and screen-printed photovoltaic panels, covering a total surface area of 202 m² and producing maximum power of 34 kWp.
ENGIE will work alongside ENERGY OBSERVER throughout 2020 to raise awareness and bring together zero-carbon pioneers around initiatives and innovations that propose new ways of living, consuming and travelling.
During this great odyssey around the world, you can travel with ENERGY OBSERVER too! Follow the ship’s log through the latest news at each port of call:
