committed to ambitious plans for their zero-carbon transition. Their aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from energy production \u2013 until now coal-fired \u2013 and make the environment healthier for local residents.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n            <\/div>\n            \n                    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"block_9251f67f7779c8b09d2db4a184459fdd\" class=\"cp-wysiwyg teq-container nj-aura nj-aura--white\">\n    <div class=\"teq-grid \">\n        <div class=\"col-span-6 xl:col-start-2 xl:col-span-10 lg:col-start-1 lg:col-span-12 \">\n                        <div class=\"teq-wysiwyg\">\n                <div data-trad data-trad-html><h3>ENGIE\u2019s solution for these German cities: low-carbon, decentralised heat and electricity production systems<\/h3>\n<p>In Saarbr\u00fccken, Saarland, ENGIE \u2013 through its subsidiary Energie SaarLorLux in a joint venture with its partner Stadtwerke Saarbr\u00fccken- is building a new combined power plant producing heat and energy from natural gas. The 50 MW plant will enable coal-based power generation to end in 2022. By completely reorganising the heat supply of 11,000 customers, the city has reduced its annual CO2 emissions by about 60,000 tonnes!<\/p>\n<p>In the city of Gera, in Thuringia, ENGIE has already replaced two old gas thermal power plants. The heating network\u2019s 19,000 customers are now supplied by nine gas cogeneration units and six gas boilers. By replacing the old production plants and renovating the<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engie.com\/en\/activities\/infrastructures\/distribution\">distribution<\/a>network, the city saves 50,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cDistrict heating has great potential for combating climate change.
