What You Can Expect

As the Student Intern, you will be part of a 8-week hybrid internship program with a start date of June 10, 2025 and ending on July 31, 2025, where you will explore the intersection of sustainability and real-world implementation of sustainable design and construction.

 

You will visit and engage with the construction occurring at your school site. You will be responsible for participating in construction meetings, doing walk-throughs, and measurements that will include safety analysis, drawing reviews, and procurement tracking.

 

You will join a cohort online working to explore the intersection of sustainability and real-world implementation of sustainable design & construction.  You will work to obtain an understanding of the Energy Industry Fundamentals programming and work towards a certificate from the Center for Energy Workforce Development.  Mentoring opportunities from individuals working across ENGIE’s business units will be included in the 8-week internship.  The programming includes interaction with the national cohort of interns across ENGIE. 

 

You will participate in virtual classes with students from different districts across the country, engage in a weekly national intern conference call, and work towards obtaining your LEED certification.

 

ENGIE is seeking interns who have an interest in energy, sustainability, and engineering.  Students who have completed AP Environmental Sciences, Physics, Engineering and Construction courses are encouraged to apply.

What You Can Expect

​​​​As our Program Management Support (Energy Conservation Measures) Intern at Georgetown University you will be responsible for supporting the local Capital Projects team concentrating on the support of energy conservation measures (ECMs) and other large capital projects.  Every day you will work closely with ENGIE’s project management team to focus on project execution (schedule, scope, budget), quality assurance/control, developing innovative approaches to carbon reduction, and interacting with the Georgetown community to communicate ENGIE’s efforts and progress.

 
You will:

  • Collaborate with business unit leaders and program managers to help execute infrastructure projects that improve Georgetown’s energy system and reduce energy/carbon use 
  • Identify Georgetown community groups that have a focus on sustainability and may be good candidates for partnership on ECM efforts; develop relationships with leaders of campus organizations and serve as a representative for ENGIE and the Georgetown Energy Partnership 
  • Provide analysis on project execution to facilitate successful roll-out, generate statistical data to evaluate the effort’s success, engage in planning for future initiatives based on “best practices” 
  • Collect data, conduct research and present relevant analytical results to senior leadership with the goal of impacting project management and communication strategy 
  • Assess Georgetown community expectations and requirements and develop relevant targeted plans to meet that expectation; iterating as needed 
  • Translate partnerships’ message to meet marketing and communications needs as they arise

As the Electrician I, under general supervision, you will apply knowledge, skills and abilities at the journey level to install, operate, troubleshoot, maintain and repair electric utility substation, distribution and production plant electrical equipment. What You Can Expect

The Engineer Intern is a critical role responsible for supporting the development and installation of energy conservation measures and renewable energy at large-scale public sector customers. You will be working in a fast-paced, team-based environment, at the direction of the Project Manager as well as their supervisor. Responsibilities in this role include the design of Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Measures, performing site audits, specifying equipment, and completing savings calculations to support projects in development and construction. Projects include a combination of energy efficiency measures and renewable generation installations, to help local cities, schools, and counties become more sustainable, save money, and improve services to their end-users and the expectation is that one to several projects are supported from early development through post-construction.

 

The intern will support ongoing projects in development or in construction which will include one ore more of the following:

  • Participate in technical design of energy-related customer improvements including such as solar photovoltaic (PV), energy storage, microgrids, energy efficiency, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) upgrades
  • Learn and apply knowledge of Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) and Controls, including modeling software
  • Analyze utility data to verify existing customer loads, consider rate change options, and calculate energy and water cost savings
  • Perform renewable energy designs, including solar PV and energy storage system site surveys, and understand metering and measurement tools and data
  • Evaluate various types and locations of renewable energy systems
  • Perform energy conservation measure analysis including a comparison of technologies, savings calculations, scopes of work, and contractor bid costs for HVAC, controls, lighting, and water measures, using tools such as eQuest, Trane Trace, Energy Pro, and Excel spreadsheets, including bin simulations
  • Calculate potential solar generation quantities of various scenarios using PVSyst modeling, Helioscope and Energy Toolbase tools
  • Support the preparation of Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Measures scopes and specifications for subcontractor Request for Proposals
  • Prepare utility and other incentive program applications, permit packages, and customer submittals
  • Assist the Project and Construction Managers on job walks, bid evaluations, contractor negotiations, and during construction meetings
  • Assist with obtaining third-party quotes and subcontractor bids for all scopes, answers third-party questions, and assists with analyzing bids with Project Manager
  • Accurately estimates measure costs to anticipate total project costs
  • Communicate with authority-having-jurisdiction officials to obtain construction permits. Prior projects’ experience with DSA and OSHPD is a plus.
  • Assist during the construction phase of the project by reviewing submittals, change orders, RFI’s, and making recommendations to the Project Manager. Prior experience with Procore Construction Management software is a plus
  • Going to job sites to support construction activities as needed and directed by the ENGIE Construction Manager.

What You’ll Bring

  • Actively pursuing a 4-year degree at an accredited university with a focus in Engineering or any other quantitative degree
  • Must be in good academic standing at the start of the internship period
  • Internship duration is for the 2025 summer (May/June through August/September)

 

Additional Details

  • This is an in-office and in-field position.  Intern is expected to be on-site at the office or at a job site.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record to travel to job sites
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies;
  • This position consist of 60% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions

 

Compensation

Hourly Range:  $21.00 - $34.00 USD

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
