What You Can Expect

As our Health and Safety Advisor in Chicago, IL, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring Health and Safety programs for the Distributed Solar & Storage (DSS) team, partnering with other Business Entities and Operating Companies’ and Health and Safety (H&S) staff to influence an organizational culture that leads to an injury free working environment. Every day you will support safety excellence through engaging with project staff and leadership, incident review, safety trend tracking, and providing training and guidance. You will report to the HSE Director and assist in development and implementation of a H&S Management System that encompasses standards of excellence, programs, policies, procedures and processes for ENGIE Energy Solutions (ES) North America.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management, Engineering or Business
  • Certified Safety Professional and OSHA safety certifications
  • A minimum seven (7) years’ Safety Management, with three  (3) of those years’ experience in power generation and energy distribution
  • Subject matter expert in OSHA (US) CFR 29 Parts 1910 / 1926
  • Experience with root cause failure analysis tools and their application for recordable events
  • Experience with behavioral science and the psychology behind influencing change
  • Experience in commercial and industrial construction environments
  • You have experience working in environments with  energy distribution systems, new construction of solar and battery storage sites, and facility O&M management
  • You feel confident in supporting H&S database management and providing required monthly statistical reports to ES North America Business Unit (BU) corporate and Business Entity (BE) executives
  • As our Health and Safety Advisor you will conduct regular onsite training, supervision, compliance audits, incident investigations, and safety cultural assessments
  • You know how to as directed, lead serious incident investigations into High Potential (HiPo) incidents, including those that result in a lost time accident 
  • You can identify countermeasures to prevent recurrence and eliminate deviations from the standard
  • You have managed the selection of third-party H&S auditors, consultants and contractors
  • You have experience reviewing contractor safety plans and procedures to assure their standard is equal or more stringent than ES NorAm’s safety criteria as stipulated in the procurement Terms & Conditions

 

 

Additional Details

  • This is a field position requiring regular travel to operational  sites
  • This role requires daily attendance at a worksite 
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 50% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record rental cars through ENGIE

Compensation

Salary Range: $96,100 – $147,660 USD annually

What You Can Expect

As our Business Development Intern, you will play a key role in expanding our project portfolio through land campaigns and project acquisitions. You will also participate in due diligence for new RFP opportunities and support active deals through contract execution. This role will provide you with valuable experience in land prospecting, permitting, due diligence, and exposure to current renewable energy policies and markets. Additionally, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of distributed solar and storage development. This position is based in Chicago, IL, and reports to the Project Developer. This internship program spans three (3) months, running from August 2024 to October 2024.

 

 

  • Work closely with the land team to identify potential properties for solar projects, conduct research on land ownership, permitting requirements, interconnection, and environmental regulations, and utilize GIS tools to analyze and visualize project constraints
  • Improve and maintain processes to track progress of land campaigns for internal reporting, coordinate with internal and external subject matter experts to conduct due diligence on early to mid-stage solar and solar + storage projects, and identify relevant GIS datasets and sources
  • Assist in drafting and evaluating solar project proposals for corporate and/or utility clients, and create and assign tasks for Engineering and Project Management teams

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in business, Geographic Information System (GIS), sustainability, engineering or related field

What You Can Expect

The Engineer II is a role responsible for supporting the development and installation of energy conservation measures and renewable energy with large-scale public sector customers. The right person will be working in a fast-paced, team-based environment, at the direction of the Project Manager as well as their supervisor. Responsibilities in this role include the design of Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Measures (ECM), performing site audits, specifying equipment, and completing savings calculations to support projects in development and construction. Projects include a combination of energy efficiency measures and renewable generation installations, to help local cities, schools, and counties become more sustainable, save money, and improve services to their end-users and the expectation is that one to several projects are supported from early development through post-construction.

 

This position is located in Oakland, CA and will report to the Director of Project Management.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a focus on an engineering discipline
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ work experience
  • Working knowledge of utility rate schedules including TOU and demand charges structures
  • Previous experience with solar photovoltaic systems, including the ability to identify different systems and equipment, identify potential energy savings measures, and quantify the potential energy savings and costs
  • Understanding of metering and measurement tools for data provided
  • Competency in computer modeling software programs, such as PVSyst or Helioscope, and apply them in preparing savings calculations and customer deliverables
  • Strong knowledge of national and California electric codes as it applies to renewables sections
  • Capability to handling multiple projects of moderate complexity at one time
  • Creativity in solving problems where solutions are not clear
  • Calculate potential solar generation quantities of various scenarios using the PVSyst modeling and Energy Toolbase tools
  • A proficiency in Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Measures scopes and specifications for subcontractor Request for Proposals
  • Knowledge of utility and other incentive program applications, permit packages and customer submittals
  • Ability to assist the Project and Construction Managers on job walks, bid evaluations, contractor negotiations, and during construction meetings
  • Capability during the construction phase of the project to assist by reviewing submittals, change orders, and RFI’s, and make recommendations to the Project Manager
  • A proficiency in computer modeling/simulation of building operation to calibrate energy consumption to utility bill data
  • Capability to work on AutoCAD to design diagrams and clear layouts for customer and contractors.
  • Ability to mentor/advise other engineers and train them on areas of expertise
  • Previous onsite commissioning of electrical systems knowledge

  • Collaborate with ENGIE’s project development and delivery teams, ensuring customer-focused project attributes are communicated, and leading internal support teams through complex sales processes to closing
  • Stay informed about community solar opportunities and national industry trends, assessing their impact on the competitiveness and future of community solar projects
  • Manage the Advisor, Community Solar Programs; Sr. Analyst, Community Solar Partnerships; and Intern/VIE, and represent ENGIE at national renewable energy events as a speaker, panelist, and industry leader

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Organizational Management, Environmental Policy, Political Science, Business, Economics or related field
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in energy industry; preferably in renewable energy

What you’ll do:

Water Operations professionals at ENGIE North America are responsible for:

  • Safe and compliant operation of the University of Iowa Water plant ( A grade IV State of Iowa Surface Water Treatment Plant)
  • Supplying the drinking water to the University campus and Hospital facility
  • Operating the plant machinery, completing rounds assessing physical operating conditions of the equipment, and submitting / scheduling work orders performing water sampling, testing, and logging the sampling activities and reporting of operational conditions
  • After sampling and testing, adjusting and correcting all phases of the water treatment processes safely and efficiently
  • After developing competencies on our specific equipment and processes operators will be involved in instruction and training of other operators in plant procedures and processes related to equipment operation, sampling, testing, and reporting 
  • Other day to day duties include inventorying of chemicals and supplies, light maintenance and upkeep of the facility

 

What you’ll bring:

  • Operators will have a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, and a State of Iowa Department of Natural Resources Class I Water Treatment Certification or Higher
  • Through education or experience the Operator will have developed a strong knowledge of occupational hazards and implementation of safety procedures regarding plant equipment, chemical handling and personal safety
  • You will have developed expertise in Water Treatment and plant operations, including usage of laboratory testing and measuring devices, making adjustments based on testing results  and remote telemetry systems for plant condition monitoring
  • You will have gained experience in evaluating equipment conditions, using complex prints, sketches, or diagrams to complete minor repairs or adjustments, and creating effective reports or work orders for  scheduling or contacting maintenance and management
  • You will have gained experience using Computers, and multiline phone systems, to create or give a detailed actionable verbal or written report to Stakeholders (Customers, Management, Maintenance)
  • Experienced with supervising vendors or contractors working on our equipment, ensuring safety practices in compliance with ENGIE policies and ensuring quality of repair or installation

What You Can Expect

Our Data Analyst Internship will be located on the University of Iowa Campus, this intern will support the team that provides distribution of chilled water, electricity, steam and water to multiple customers across our campuses. This group maintains the cabling, controls network, metering, piping, pumping, substation, tunnel and vault systems that comprise the distribution systems.  These positions may also assist with development and execution of materials inventory tracking, or installed inventory, using a variety of computer programs.

 

This role is an immediate opportunity and is scheduled to continue until December 31, 2024. 

 

  • Student may independently conduct data collection, modeling, sampling or light maintenance without direct supervision
  • Student may assist with data analysis, modeling and recommendations for improvements to system designs, operations procedures preventative maintenance programs and record-keeping systems

 

Objectives:

  • Be able to independently identify maintenance needs in distribution systems contact the Utilities Distribution Planner to develop Corrective Work Orders.
  • Efficiently develop and maintain results and analyses of distribution systems across campus, working at the direction of the Utilities Distribution management and planning staff to help identify, document and track distribution performance and maintenance needs.
  • Maintain records systems.
  • Maintain equipment inventory databases, working at the direction of Utilities Distribution management and planning staff.  Inventory could be retained in spreadsheet, database, Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), or ArcGIS, depending on dataset and usage.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Student must be enrolled in the University of Iowa
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel (Tables, V-lookups)
  • An academic focus on Engineering, Construction Management, business or other relevant program

 

 

Additional Details

  • All Iowa City based internships  are located on the University Campus
  • Interns must be enrolled students in good standing at the commencement of the intern semester
  • This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis

Compensation

Hourly Range:  $21.00 - $28.00  hourly

What You Can Expect

Our Steamfitter will be working at the University of Iowa Campus in Iowa City, and the Satellite campus in Oakdale. This employee will be performing preventative maintenance and repair services on Utility Distribution piping systems for steam, domestic water, hot water for heating and chilled water for cooling.  Our responsibilities on campus include both direct-buried and tunneled systems as well as sanitary and storm sewer systems.

 

ENGIE at the University of Iowa employs over 100 energy professionals in the trades, technical specialties, engineering, management, and support to operate the utility production and distribution systems, driving toward greater use of renewable and sustainable fuels.

A typical day consists of performing preventive maintenance and repairs on utility Distribution Piping Systems, and servicing equipment used by the department to perform services such as Diesel powered pumps, compressors, backflow equipment.  In this role you will Install operate, troubleshoot, and repair High-pressure Systems (90 psig or greater) You will service steam pressure reducing stations, expansion joints Steam meters, steam traps, steam valves.  Inspect and service direct buried pre-insulated, large diameter buried domestic and chilled water mains, valves, and fire hydrants, hot water lines, valves, and expansion joints, compressed air lines, air regulators, and valves storm and sanitary sewers, utility access holes. Install piping systems and equipment (i.e. pumps, valves). Repairing or fabricating by Welding  using arc, gas, Heli arc, and spot-welding techniques.  You will be Interpreting and maintaining diagrams, schematics, system logs, drawings, and documentation on utility systems You Assists in arranging building shutdowns of all mechanical distribution utilities for Service work ensuring that customers and stakeholders are notified and that work is completed with employee and customer safety as an absolute priority. You determine Jobsite work sequences and safety procedures required, procures materials, coordinates outages, complete work, and place systems back into service.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A Minimum of a High school diploma or GED or equivalent

  • Four years’ experience in one or more aspects of the trade, pipefitting, welding, plumbing, or similar; or a combination of work and education such as an apprenticeship, trade school or military training.
  • Knowledge of  work processes used when working with steam at pressures greater than 90 psig.
  • knowledge of utility systems and equipment
  • Knowledge of tools and methods necessary to troubleshoot and maintain utility piping systems
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques used in the steam and piping trades
  • Knowledge of trade occupational hazards and safety precautions while working in confined spaces, aerial or elevated locations, extreme temperatures, excavations, and other environmental caused conditions
  • Knowledge of building and piping codes, utility standards, and safety programs as governed by rules, regulations and guidelines of local, state, and national safety codes, equipment manufacturers, and others
  • Experience reading and understanding blueprints, schematics, control system drawings, and repair manuals
  • Experience with welding techniques and equipment
  • Experience maintaining records and system documentation
  • Ability to perform basic measurements, and  math computations
  • Ability to analyze system problems, recommend, and implement system changes
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with other department personnel, vendors and suppliers, students, staff, and the public

 

 

Additional Details

  • A minimum of a state issued driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a commercial driver’s license in the future. This Employee will be operating company owned vehicles
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • You must be available to work a rotating 24-hour on-call schedule
  • This position requires that you have a personal phone for on-call or emergency notifications
  • Must be physically capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing; sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, and the like as required); kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting100 lbs.
  • Must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined space (underground utility vaults and tunnels; small, enclosed areas and the like) as required

  • Ability to use a company computer, and work with Microsoft Office software applications

  • This position consist of 50% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions

 

 

Compensation

Salary Range:  $27.45 – $39.42 USD hourly
