What You Can Expect

As the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Compliance Advisor within ENGIE North America’s Flexible Generation (FlexGen) Business Unit, your role involves ensuring that the company’s Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assets across the USA comply with NERC Standards. Additionally, you'll lead the coordination, preparation, and submission of compliance reports to NERC to demonstrate regulatory alignment.

 

Reporting to the Asset Management Manager, your primary duties encompass:

 

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on NERC compliance requirements throughout BESS project lifecycle, focusing on planning, commissioning, and operational stages
  • Develop and implement compliance programs, policies, and procedures ensuring alignment with NERC standards and regulatory requirements
  • Assess project documents, designs, and plans for compliance with NERC standards
  • Monitor and audit BESS operations to ensure ongoing compliance with NERC regulations
  • Prepare and submit reports to NERC, documenting compliance efforts and findings
  • Provide training and guidance to project teams and operational staff on NERC compliance requirements and best practices
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and industry partners to address compliance issues and ensure alignment with regulatory standards

 

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in NERC compliance; experience with BESS or Solar projects is preferred

Compensation

Salary Range: $84,000 – $128,800 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Ethics Officer for the South African region

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Acquire a good and precise understanding of ENGIE ethical documents, rules and policies;
  • Provide induction training to all new joiners and refresher training to all employees covering the guiding ethical principles and foster knowledge and awareness of both the Group and South African policies including the Ethics Code of Conduct, Gifts & Hospitality Policy, Due Diligence Policy, Group Embargo Policy, Supplier Relations Policy and Business Consultant Policy among others;
  • Organize and carry out annual training for all new directors in accordance with the Group’s Framework for Directors Guide;
  • Act as interface internally and externally to provide the first level of ethical advice to both the South African office and the AMEA Office;
  • Proactively engaging with the regional teams and the Ethics Officers’ network regarding their objectives and activities and assisting with mitigating risk and ensuring alignment with the Group’s ethical values;
  • Assist the South Africa Ethic Officer in raising awareness on ethics matters and data privacy regulations across South Africa;
  • Organize and conduct training sessions in South Africa HQ and on site;
  • Assist the South Africa Ethics Officer in preparing the annual ethics report for the AMEA Region;
  • Report all incidents in Common Ethics Tool and follow up the action plan as required;
  • Assist the South Africa Ethics Officer in carrying out investigation by taking minutes and help in the preparation of Investigation Reports;
  • Prepare the Ethics assessment and memo during the development phase of projects (due diligence reports, partners’ checks, human rights reports for new countries etc.) and provide for Group’s approval;
  • Define and review local policies (in reporting tasks, in defining and following up the ethical action plan;
  • Work closely with the Group’s Ethics, Compliance and Privacy Department on an array of matters including embargo related queries and clearance, compliance committee updates and data privacy/GDPR issues;
  • Ensure the ethical watch in order to monitor the global trends in all ethical areas (embargos & sanctions, Human rights, anti-corruption matters etc.);
  • Ensure compliance with Ethical policies and procedures issued by the Group.
  • Monitor and report on non-compliance with policies or procedures, pending or threatened violations of law or ethical values of the Group.
  • Promote the Group’s ethical culture and “Zero Tolerance Policy” within South Africa.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Responding to all pre-action legal letters received.
  • Managing the handling of all pre-action legal letters from receipt to resolution.
  • Liaising with, and directing, internal colleagues (Sales, Finance, Customer Services, Debt Recovery) to obtain information needed in order to respond to all legal letters / claims.
  • Liaise with external third parties (e.g. TPIs) as needed in respect of any claims.

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of combined legal experience in the United States with a law firm or major corporate legal department; practice with a top-tier firm and combination of outside counsel and prior in-house experience is beneficial to the success of this role

Our Contracts Analyst II, located at the University of Iowa Campus, will collaborate closely with our Capital Projects team on campus and provide active support to team members located at Georgetown University, The Ohio State University, and our Corporate Office in Houston, TX. This dynamic role entails supporting the negotiation, development, and administration of capital project contracts associated with campus energy systems' capital improvement projects. You'll engage with various groups and divisions within ENGIE, vendors, subcontractors, and the University on a daily basis, recognizing that robust partnerships are essential for our success on campus.

 

Your daily responsibilities will involve assisting project managers and contract advisors in the contracting and procurement process for all capital improvement projects on Campus. This includes supporting the development and tracking of Request for Proposal (RFP) packages, ensuring alignment with project schedules and stakeholder requirements. You'll take the lead in the contract bidding process for low-risk contracts, acting as the single point of contact for bidders, organizing site visits, and issuing RFP addenda as needed. Ensuring compliance with regulatory and corporate governance requirements in our contracts will be a key aspect of your role. Additionally, you'll play a pivotal role in negotiating with selected bidders, employing a documented process and sound judgment to resolve scope, terms, and other discrepancies.

You'll also contribute to the procurement process by creating vendor-related agreements for services and materials, and participate in the development and tracking of legal documents such as contractual submittals, notices, and change orders as necessary. Furthermore, you'll review supplier/contract project invoicing for compliance with contracts, support project close-out documentation requirements using provisional acceptance and final acceptance contract documentation, and track, evaluate, and qualify new and existing contractor relationships. Providing support on contractual claims and disputes will also be part of your responsibilities.

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor of Science in Applied Business or Bachelor of Business Administration, Supply Chain or other similar degree
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in a related field where you have developed a background in contract development / contract administration or project related execution
  • You will have gained experience in energy systems development or construction with public, industrial, or commercial customers
  • You are experienced in planning and working independently as well as being a collaborative team player
  • You are able to handle multiple tasks concurrently at a fast pace and with accuracy

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities :

  • Ensure all the legal support to thermal and renewable projects under development or in operations by Engie in the North Africa region (solar plant, wind farms, desalination plant, H2 project…).
  • Draft, negotiate and review various agreements (MoUs, JDA, PPA, EPC contract, Turbine supply agreement, call for tender documentation, etc.).
  • Advising and supporting M&A activities.
  • Insuring the follow-up of the transactions with the banks and financial institutions in accordance with the local regulation.
  • Actively contributing to the implementation of applicable compliance procedures in line with Ethics & Compliance guidelines.
  • Management of the corporate housekeeping of the companies and branches in the region.

 

Education

  • You have a Master Degree in law (preferably under French, English or Moroccan law);
  • You have 4 to 10 years’ experience working as an in-house or attorney (avocat);

 

Experience and Skills

  • You have an excellent command of French and English with excellent reading, writing and listening skills. Arabic is a plus.
  • You have specific experience in contract law, corporate law, energy law or public law.
  • Experience in the energy, utilities or industrial sector is a plus.
  • Experience in a reputed law firm is a clear plus.
  • You have a good understanding of the business issues and are eager to work in an international environment.
  • You work well in a team and have excellent communication skills.
  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit and are well-organized.
  • You are stress resistant and keen to meet deadlines.

 

Communication and working relationships

  • Internal: business developers, managers, finance, tax, HR, IT, communications, and worldwide affiliates of Engie group.
  • External: partners, legal firms, auditors, lenders.

Location/travel

  • Place of residence: Casablanca, Morocco.
  • Occasional travel is required through Northern Africa, Europe and Dubaï
  • Contract: full time, permanent.
