About the team

 

Laborelec’s Solar Team, part of the Renewables & Urban Department, is leading the solar PV research and innovation roadmap for ENGIE and performs technical expertise services for the ENGIE Group and external clients. The team, consisting of a multi-disciplinary team of experts, including PV system yield simulation experts, PV equipment experts (trackers, inverters) and operational performance experts (soiling impact, monitoring) and data scientists, has 3 missions:

  1. Anticipate and test new solar technologies (such as Agri-PV and floating offshore PV) – through tests in the Lab and large-scale pilot installations, including our testing facilities in the North of Chile
  2. Support ENGIE in technical insights for the development of new solar projects through writing technical specifications and guidelines for ENGIE’s 8 GW PV fleet
  3. Develop solar PV fleet-scale monitoring tools and digital solutions for improving operations.

These projects are often multidisciplinary, combining solar, renewable energy technologies, power network studies & measurements, cyber security, IT solutions, etc. and are therefore executed in strong interaction with multiple teams within Laborelec.

 

In order to support the ambitious growth of ENGIE’s solar activities, Laborelec is looking for a talented and committed Solar Expert having a strong operational background.

 

 

What you’ll be doing

 

As Solar Expert, you rely on your own operational background and coordinate transversally with experts from multiple competence centres

  • You lead digital project design and implementation, with the support of our solar experts and the digital teams and in coordination with operational entities within ENGIE
  • You manage the execution of global fleet-scale performance analyses of solar photovoltaics assets by combining advanced digital analysis tools and on-site measurements and inspections,
  • You spearhead and/or participate in the execution of Root-Cause-Analyses of performance issues, inverter failures, tracker failures, power plant control failures, etc. often involving on-site fact finding missions and laboratory works in collaboration with electrical equipment experts
  • You lead and participate in the execution of R&D projects and Operational projects in the field of solar O&M
  • You act as an integrator of different competence domains to contribute to the solution towards the clients.
  • You build a close relation with the clients, from the definition of their needs till the delivery of a solution bringing them clear added value
  • You effectively communicate project progress, results and references to clients and stakeholders.

  • Have a Master’s degree in electrotechnical or electromechanical engineering (civil or industrial) or a Master’s degree related to solar technology with a strong interest in digital solution implementation and operation.
  • Have a strong operational background in solar.
  • Have a good understanding of the technical components, design considerations, electrical system and inverter integration aspects, performance and O&M practices in large scale photovoltaic power plants and are interested in the technology trends,
  • Have experience with Python
  • You have a strong customer focus with the ability to understand and make explicit the implicit needs and motivations driving our customers.
  • Show tenacity and passion for solving the technical problems that come with implementing new solutions and products
  • Possess strong communication skills and are not afraid to talk to and engage an audience
  • Enjoy developing synergies both internally with other competence centers and with external partners (e.g. manufacturers, universities and other research centers)?
  • Communicate fluently in at least two of the three following languages : Dutch, French and English, and you are engaged to reach quickly a fluent level in the third one (other languages are a plus)
  • Agree and able to travel for short missions within Belgium, Europe and outside Europe

The energy transition is more than ever a reality and is extremely demanding for the power system.  The change for Power Network Operators, Power Suppliers and Industry is the most important since its origin. Laborelec as a leading expertise and research centre in electrical power technology is at the centre of this exciting change and is looking for two Junior to Medior engineer profiles willing to develop an electrical expert career in the field of Electrical Power Systems (network and power quality, power flow and transient phenomena, compatibility issues, …),. The work domain will be critical electrical networks in industry, utilities (DSO’s, TSO’s, micro-grid developers), renewable power (hydro, wind, solar, …) & battery storage, thermal and nuclear generation worldwide.

 

 

What you’ll be doing

Your responsibilities as Power Networks Engineer

 

 

  • You are part of the Expert Team of Power Networks at Laborelec
  • You perform Projects and Power Networks Studies (simulations, complex electrical measurements, …) both for classical grid as for micro grids
  • You develop Laboratory Tests and Field Measurements setups and you coordinate various Monitoring and Measurement activities (electrical measurements, both online and offline)
  • You develop and manage Products and Services in the proposed domains for our customers.
  • You develop a Strong Relationship with our Clients: Grid Operators, Industrial Parties and different business lines inside the ENGIE Group.
  • You perform Root Cause Analysis in a temporary team of electrical experts in case of electrical incidents to compile expert reporting

Within the Power & Infra Business Line, the Water and Green fuel team is working on CCGT, biomass energy plants and thermal industrial boilers, performing research activities, developing global solutions and managing services to customers worldwide.

More specifically, the Green fuel team is active in the following domains of expertise:

  • Biofuels/green (e)fuels use cases, focusing on biomass conversion technologies and biogenic CO2 production,
  • Greenification of energy assets (e.g. retrofit of fossil fuel boilers to biomass),
  • Combustion of biofuels and green (e)fuels in energy plants,
  • Certification of biofuels and green (e)fuels and related regulatory aspects,
  • Safety aspects (ATEX, HAZID, HAZOP) related to biofuels and green (e)fuels, including H2,
  • Biomass supply chains,
  • Calculation of greenhouse gas emissions and savings.

The experts of the team develop a deep understanding and experience of those technical domains in order to:

  • Offer operational expertise to both power plants and industrial assets to anticipate and solve technical problems they can meet, improve their operational excellence and prepare them for future challenges. We perform consultancy like missions at our customer sites as well as troubleshooting interventions.
  • Perform research programs for ENGIE and other stakeholders, where we :
    • map, assess, test and de-risk disruptive technologies,
    • support for consolidating return of experience and standardizing practices,
    • bring Innovation for A to Z optimization through own and co-development: innovative monitoring, modelling and forecasting.

 

What you’ll be doing

 

Your responsibilities as Green Fuels and Biomass Junior Expert

Laborelec is looking for a young engineer to manage projects in bio-energy and biotechnologies applied to the energy sector, working with the company's internal and external customers. You are willing to develop and deepen your expertise in the field of green fuels and their use cases inside ENGIE businesses.

Your typical tasks will be related to the:

  • characterisation of the physico-chemical properties of biomass resources,
  • identification of technologies that can be used to convert biomass into various products (biorefineries),
  • execution of in-depth study of biomass conversion processes (biological, chemical or thermal),
  • execution of in-depth study of conversion processes for carbonaceous waste resources (solid, liquid or gaseous),
  • assessment of the environmental risks associated with biomass conversion processes,

You are able to write reports and execute convincing presentations describing the outcome of your work.

At the core of the energy transition, Laborelec Middle East is hiring a Transformer Expert to sustain its growth in Saudi Arabia. 

 

The opportunity

You will join a team of experts based in the client offices. The team will be composed of 4 Experts and one project Manager responsible for the overall client management. During the onsite assignment, you will be required to :

  • Support the client on Transformers asset inspection and health index estimation
  • Recommend preventive and reactive maintenance activities based on the condition of the client Transformer assets.
  • Support client during major incident by providing recommendation to repairs or restore failing Transformer equipment.
  • Challenge OEM on the recommendation given to our client and support client during repairs activities on Transformers.
  • Collaborate with Engie Laborelec Headquarter colleagues to study or analyse major equipment failures
  • Serve as specific field’s expert Transformers technical advisors for our client on the subject matters.
  • This assignment will require the experts to visit the sites jointly with the client maintenance crew.

 

What you need to succeed in your mission

You have:

  • At least 5 years to 10 years experiences as a Transformers Expert.
  • Experience with a big grid operator in the US/Europe is mandatory.
  • Hands on Experience in Transformer condition monitoring and maintenance.
  • The ideal profile would have tested, assessed and maintained Transformers preferably in a utility, an OEM or Maintenance company.
  • Worked on high voltage equipment (33KV and above)

About the team

 

Our Power & Infrastructure Business Line provides high added value activities to the Global Business Units (GBUs) of ENGIE, the power generation sector, grid operators, and the industry in Europe. This covers applied research and on-the-field technical expertise.  

In order to increase the activities among others related to the identification of problem root causes or design assessment within the Cluster Mechanics & Thermal Processes, Laborelec is looking for an expert with solid O&M experience in thermal power plant equipment. This experience will be among others used to provide technical assistance to the client, to find the cause of failures or damage, to perform a fit for purpose analysis or risk assessment of (cracked) components or to challenge the design of (failed) components,

Our international team of engineers is well known for its competence in complex problem solving for different components in the power energy business as well as general industry. We are also responsible for the online monitoring of more than 100 turbine shaft lines all over the world and are regularly called for on-site dedicated measurement in case of problems. Within Laborelec, we work closely together with the Materials, Non-destructive testing and Electrical expert teams.

What you’ll be doing

Your responsibilities as Expert – mechanical engineering

 

  • Manage Root Cause Failure analyses on thermal power plant equipment (rotating machinery, valves, piping, HRSG, etc.)
  • Lead designated multidisciplinary project teams and help structuring to achieve a uniform approach
  • Perform analysis in case of detected incidents to identify the cause
  • Bring added value in the interpretation of the results and propose solutions
  • Be the project manager for complex projects in the mechanical domain
  • Pro-actively seeking opportunities to optimise maintenance strategies for power plants
  • Be the interface in discussions with clients, insurers and OEM’s
  • Expedite knowledge transfer and be a mentor in the field of mechanics to junior engineers

  • Have a Master degree in mechanical engineering with 7 years of experience in power plant equipment
  • Have an ability to simplify problem solving based on conservative hypothesis

About the team

 

Our Nuclear Department’s mission is to provide a broad range of need driven services and solutions to industrial control and process automation system users to enable them improving the operability of the assets.
This ranges from specific sensor solutions, conceptual control and automation enhancement, data handling, up to the operator interface. Simulators and tools, both commercial and in house developed, are used to test solutions. Your working field will be in the nuclear power generation.

 

Our team assist nuclear operators in the daily operation of the plant through a wide range of expert services.
 

Our solutions help nuclear operators to firmly address issues resulting from ageing and obsolescence.

We develop and monitor related strategies and provide hands-on assistance to ensure the availability of required safety functions throughout the service life of the plant, taking into account changes that occur over time and with use.

 

 

What you’ll be doing
 

Your responsibilities as Automation and control Engineer Nuclear

As Automation and control Engineer, within our process automation Department, specialized in improving control and process automation, you will be immersed in a range of diverse field related complex subjects and produce creative solutions.

More concretely, you will ensure that opportunities for improvements are defined, developed and implemented

Some examples of frequently requested services are:

•       Control loop conceptual review and optimization 

•       Steam turbine controller check-up, supported by an in-house developed hardware-in-the-loop simulator

•       Specific measuring campaigns like nuclear power plant enclosure tightness

•       Effectively discuss ideas and conclusions to power plant management as well as power plant Operators
