ENGIE Impact is seeking an innovative and creative professional to join their Strategy and Sustainability team. Reporting to the VP of Corporate Strategy, you will manage and execute ENGIE Impact’s Corporate Sustainability programs and activities relating to corporate sustainability in furtherance of our mission and business strategy.  You will identify and support strategic initiatives and play a key role in end-to-end strategy development. A demonstrated track record as an exemplary strategic thinker and problem-solver is required.

 

The Sustainability Manager will support strategic projects and play a key role in managing the successful implementation of ENGIE Impact’s Corporate Sustainability (CS) strategy, short- and long-term goals, foundational projects, new corporate initiatives and assessing priorities for ENGIE Impact.

 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the CS program is aligned with and supports the advancement of ENGIE Impact’s business strategy and goals, as well as ENGIE Group’s goals.
  • Lead cross-functional and cross-organizational collaboration of key stakeholders throughout the organization on CS strategy development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Lead annual GHG Footprinting exercises, working with internal teams such as Carbon Intelligence
  • Lead the development of all internal/external CS-related communications and public reporting, including independent client reporting, UNGC, and ENGIE Impact’s annual Sustainability Report
  • Create messaging and other communication materials that showcase Corporate Sustainability efforts with data driven insights for internal and external audiences
  • Evaluate CS initiatives against industry standards and internal metrics; analyze results and develop action plans to ensure ENGIE Impact has a best-in-class CS program.
  • Ensure legal compliance, keeping up to date with relevant legislation, and advising where necessary
  • Contribute to corporate strategy development by presenting to and influencing discussions with the executive and extended global leadership team
  • Collaborate with VP of Corporate Strategy to define key business inputs and outputs that drive long term planning decisions for ENGIE Impact, as well as provide strategic and operational guidance, recommendations, and support (trusted advisor role)
  • Provide strategic support for Quarterly Business Reviews, Executive Committee meetings, Group requests/meetings, and C-level client engagements as needed
  • Working across business organizations and with related functions to learn the business, develop and animate an informal network of strategy contacts within the business to stay aligned and informed across Impact

 

Education/Certification/Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Corporate Sustainability, Environmental Sciences, Sustainable Development or related degree

 

Experience and Skills

 

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience driving complex and strategic programs with proven and measurable results and diverse stakeholders across organizations.
  • Experience implementing change strategies in an organizational context.
  • Experience working with C-suite and senior leadership to communicate, influence and drive program/initiative support.
  • Experience leading, motivating and influencing teams to accomplish goals while fostering a strong collaborative work environment.
  • Experience reporting results within sustainability frameworks (such as UNDG, GRI standards, CDP, TCFD or others)
  • In-depth understanding of strategic planning, change management, organizational development, program integration techniques and CSR practices that drive assimilation.
  • Understanding of energy efficiency/sustainability strategies, corporate social responsibility, and employee engagement.
  • Proficient in gathering, managing, reporting and presenting data and analytics.
  • Ability to nimbly transition between strategic and tactical planning, with a strong capability in shifting approach per the ever-evolving needs of the business.
  • Strong proficiency in gathering, managing, and presenting data and analytics with prior sustainability inventories experience
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented, detail-oriented, analytical, able to work well under deadlines in a changing environment.
  • Proven ability to independently manage complex projects
  • Experience building external and internal strategic relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to communicate to cross-functional teams at multiple levels of the organization
  • Advanced computer skills - MS Excel, Word, Power Point, data management or data visualization tools
  • Possess strong project management skills and can manage scope, meet timelines, and present insights to senior leaders within the organization
  • Strong ability to “altitude shift” – zoom out for high level strategic thinking, then zoom back in to ruthlessly prioritize and execute

The pay range for this role is: $111,000-144000.00

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data. This position is eligible for our comprehensive and competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Additional ENGIE benefits include a 401k plan, paid time off and annual bonus. ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Typical office hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Performing duties and attending meetings during the evening and on weekends will occur occasionally and may be required.

Primary Responsibilities 

 

ENGIE Impact is seeking a Decarbonization Analyst, a passionate, analytical, , team player and thorough critical thinker who can communicate insights with precision while working on selected workstreams across client assignments.

 

As a Decarbonization Analyst, you will work on internal and external engagements alongside ENGIE Impact’s team of professionals. To further hone your consulting skills, your sustainability projects will cover a variety of sectors and topics related to your broad strategy and technical experience. Some of your responsibilities may include:

 

  • Conducting working research with external resources on specific industry trends, technological and regulatory developments, markets, and/or sustainability technologies such as renewable energy, green fuels, energy efficiency,  process electrification, e-mobility, and others
  • Structuring and leading expert analysis of data to develop unique insights; developing leave-behind models
  • Developing and preparing high-quality client-facing materials and matrixes to be leveraged in end to end large-scale transformation
  • Planning and preparing impactful stakeholder meetings using best-in-class digital facilitation techniques and advanced technology
  • Contributing to the development and structuring of proposals and client offerings
  • Contributing to business process designs and recommending improvements to streamline our internal operations
  • Frequently collaborating with and receiving coaching from our senior leadership team

 

Preferred Qualifications 

 

A successful Decarbonization Analyst within the ENGIE Impact team will typically meet the following criteria: 

 

General Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in relevant field (engineering, business, economics, applied sciences, environment or sustainability, mathematics or physics) from a reputable university
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of professional experience, ideally in consulting or energy/sustainability sector
  • Language Skills: Fluent verbal and written English language skills, native or bilingual Spanish language skills

 

 

Technical Skills:

  • Data Analysis and Modeling:
    • Experience applying advanced analytics methodologies and strong understanding of relevant digital tools is preferred. Knowledge of programs like MS Office, Tableau, Power BI, PowerQuery, R, Python, and MatLab is beneficial.
    • Experience working on quantitative issues with simulation models, especially in the energy business (nice to have)

 

 

  • Sustainability Knowledge:
    • Experience in corporate sustainability strategies, carbon markets, green fuels, renewable energy technologies and costs, engineering of power systems and/or techno-economic analysis of energy systems (preferred)
    • Experience in energy efficiency/energy savings identification (plus)

Financial Boarder Program

 

The Financial Boarder program is the graduate program of ENGIE's finance function.

Its ambition is to attract and train talent within ENGIE's finance department, to accelerate their career development, to offer a varied experience at all levels of the group (HQ or GBS, GBU, Hub, Country, Entity) and in different finance specialties.

 

Its strength lies in its close tripartite collaboration between the program led by the Processes, Organization and Systems team of the Group Finance Department, the ENGIE Consulting team at GBS and the various entities in the finance sector according to the assignment of each mission during the two years of the program.

 

This coaching offers many opportunities for talent: mentoring, training (in finance, the Group's business model, consulting), presentations & REX, participation in cross-functional finance projects, etc.

 

 

Candidates are integrated in waves of reduced promotions, promoting a sense of community, which is all the stronger with the alumni network.

 

Candidates with 3 to 8 years of work experience are eligible for the program. They carry out three 8-month financial missions during which they are fully integrated into the local teams, which allows them to gain two years' experience within the group. The Financial Boarder will have the opportunity to carry out three 8-month missions at different levels of the organization (Head Quarter, Global Business Units, Region, Country) and in different financial specialties (FP&A, AIFA, Internal Control, Investor Relations, Treasury, ...) depending on his/her previous experience:

  • An assignment will be carried out at the group's headquarters or at GBS
  • A mission will be carried out in a GBU or country to acquire operational skills (GBU HQ or national finance teams).
  • A mission must be carried out in the HUB's finance teams.

Throughout this program, you will develop a good understanding of the challenges of the Group's various financial and operational functions and you will create a real internal network. At the end of the 3 missions, you will be able to progress more quickly within the Group to positions of responsibility.

The Director of Business Operations is responsible for establishing and augmenting the business processes, systems and tools used to efficiently achieve the overarching business objectives of ENA Renewables business unit in a context of a strong development growth plan with a goal to install each year between 1 GW and 1.5 GW of Wind, Solar and Battery Storage renewable energy projects.

 

The Director of Business Operations will also apply internal and external resources to establish controlling mechanisms to ensure there is appropriate alignment of the various functional groups that support a project during its lifecycle. The primary objective will be to account for project risks and viability, oversee development and CAPEX budgeting processes, spending variances, project scheduling process and lead the continuous improvement program of our organization including the development and deployment of new IT tools and system produced in house or provided by third parties. This position will also be the business unit’s primary focal point for all significant initiatives requiring engagement and coordination with ENGIE corporate support functions including: Accounting, Financial Planning, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal, Real Estate, Procurement, and others as required. This component of the function will require the development and delivery of training sessions with business unit personnel to ensure corporate support function processes and tools are understood and used per established policies. Finally, it is the responsibility of this function to work with the Business Operations team to establish and routinely report on Key Performance Indicators of the team.

 

This position can be located in Houston, TX, Denver, CO or Santa Barbara, CA. The Director reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

 

What you’ll do:

Business operations

  • Lead internal and external resources to standardize and continually enhance operational processes and tools used  across ENA Renewables throughout the life cycle of renewable energy projects.
  • Ensure all developed operational processes and tools are constructed in coordination with key internal stakeholders, amongst others, Project Development, Project Delivery, Power Marketing, Asset Management & Partnership, Operations, Finance, Procurement.
  • Provide controlling oversight and feedback on all project cost accounting activities from budget building through Actual vs Spend analysis in compliance with investment approvals.
  • Maintain risk assessment and project gating process that continually evaluates the viability of existing projects assets or assets being consider for acquisition.
  • Support the Project Development  Delivery teams in the establishment of robust project schedule tools and maintain ongoing schedules for a subset of high priority projects..
  • Establish the standard practices/tools and deploy the resources required to provide cost control oversight and routine reporting on all projects under construction.
  • Lead our internal improvement program aiming at defining with the leadership team key processes, systems, tools for our organization and be in charge of the implementation.
  • In charge of our landowner tools ensuring on time payments and compliance with our agreement
  • Responsible for engaging and working with ENGIE corporate support functions to resolve problems and enhance underperforming processes and tools negatively impacting routine business operations. This will include working with Accounting, Human Resources, SIENA, Information Technology, Legal, Real Estate, and Procurement.

What you bring:

  • Broad experience in the energy/renewables industry. Preference in wind, solar and battery storage industry with a focus on the development and construction phases.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to clearly communicate objectives and goals, and the ability to instill ownership and accountability within cross functional teams and individuals focused on achieving established goals.

  • Ability to understand, use and train other to use the various enterprise systems used by ENGIE. Must possess a level of competency with these systems to work with “owners” and technical support to build system enhancements and resolve negative performance issues.
  • Demonstrated experience working with or directing various corporate support functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross functional teams to design, construct, implement and maintain standard business processes, systems and tools, while overseeing change management initiatives.
  • Capable of establishing working relationships with multiple parties and experience working in a matrix organization in order to engage various corporate support functions to resolve a wide variety problems impinging upon business operations and/or personnel.  
  • Experience leading efforts focused on designing new business programs with multiple stakeholders, pilot test and finalize these programs, and successfully roll out the implementation of these programs across an organization.
  • Strong Microsoft Software Applications skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project) as well as Enterprise system, notably SAP. COUPA and Green IT a plus.
  • Exhibit initiative and ability to work independently within a large matrixed organization while effectively interfacing with the various cross-functional employee groups.

The EC is organized under several  operational streams, fostering transversality and working in project mode with a lot of autonomy, to jointly address key projects close to the business:

Team members have clearly defined roles and several “Stream leads” are dedicated to fostering a transversal approach within the EC and in the business unit. One transversal EC leader is managing the team, budget and resources, setting priorities, and supporting the development of the team and of its members.

The Carbon Risk Analyst will report to the Carbon Stream Leader.

Role:

As Carbon Risk Analyst you will have a key hands-on role within the Strategy, Communication & Sustainability team.  

Your missions will be to participate to the development of the Carbon Consulting expertise for GEMS and the Group, the deployment and steering of the Carbon Budgeting process across the business unit, supported by the design and deployment of the Carbon Accounting tool.

You will support the team in building the methods, processes, networks of contributors, codes and interfaces related to carbon operations in close cooperation with the business owners and carbon experts. You will also have a transversal role in the business reviews processes on Carbon, accompanying the BPs on the follow-up of their activity and the definition of their strategy, connecting data and computing global picture of GEMS Carbon trajectories.

This job description is not exhaustive and could evolve in accordance with needs expressed by the management or the organization. In particular, the effective perimeter of responsibilities and contributions detailed hereafter may be adapted according to an efficient allocation and delegation between the Carbon Operation team members, with regards to the on-going development and tooling of Carbon Operations missions and processes.

Carbon Methods & Compliance

  • Carbon accounting regulations & methodologies – Responsible for monitoring, steering and/or contributing to the development, interpretation and evolution of accounting, audit and certification schemes and regulations (incl. GHG protocol, new ISO 14064, ADEME GES,…); Develop, consolidate and document approaches and methodologies adapted to the scope of activity of GEM and its clients.

 

  • GHG Emissions Factors – Responsible for documenting, watching, steering and/or contributing to the deployment and update of the emission factor reference database and methodology (incl. geographic, market and contract specific data); Conduct specific studies, if deemed necessary, with the support of internal or external technical consultancy firms (e.g. ENGIE Research, Sphera, Wood Mackenzie, Carbone 4,...)

 

  • New business & ad-hoc studies – Participate in designing carbon approach and performing emissions assessment for new products, transactions or activities (incl. Origination Committee, Group Investment Committee, new business entity, new geographies,…)

 

  • Communities of practices – Contribute to animate the Decarbonization of Clients Community for gas & power (knowledge sharing, benchmarking, best practices,…); Contribute to training programs (e.g. School of Sustainability, Sustainable Business Training, Carbon Controller trainings,…)

Carbon Accounting

  • GEMS Carbon footprint – Contribute to deliver Carbon Impact of each Business Platform’s portfolio on realized and forecast positions in accordance with Group’s specification, based on effective real-time energy supply (incl. gas, power, LNG, biomass)

 

  • Clients Carbon performance – Contribute to deliver the carbon impacts of the products sold to internal and external clients and to deliver to accompany business in development of new offers

 

  • Automatization – Contribute to the carbon accounting digitalization project, which targets a full automatization of carbon data retrieval from deal management systems (API) to calculation and to provide to the Group a dynamic data base on Emission Factor

Carbon Performance & Analysis

  • Carbon budgets & trajectories – Prepare all necessary material and analyses to support decision-making to define GEMS carbon budgets in alignment with Science Based Target certification and Net Zero 2045, and to allocate these budgets per Business Platform; interact in these works with Group Corporate (incl. Corporate Social Responsibility and Finance Divisions) and Global Business Unit representatives (incl. GBU Renewables, Flexible Generation & Retail)

 

  • Business reviews – Prepare all necessary material and represent carbon topics in the context of business review processes (e.g. Quarterly Business Reviews, budget and medium-term plan working sessions); contribute to interpretation of data, construction of key messages and adaptation to business strategy

Hard skills:

  • Must have:

Previous experience in an operational position related to gas or power energy management

Strong analytical way of thinking & data crunching (capable to handle large data sets)

Proficient in data analysis, with tools like DataIKU, PowerBI, Excel

 

  • Good to have:

General background on Carbon Accounting (Greenhouse Gas, Life Cycle Analysis, Energetical Mix, Guarantee of Origin mechanism)

Previous experience in a product Owner position and agile methods environment

Well organized and diligent in on-time calendar execution, with high quality standards and the agility to inherit & prioritize urgencies.

Strong communication & presentation skills, and the capacity to take a step back to simplify things with pragmatism.

Education and professional background:

  • Master degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or Business School

Languages:

  • You speak & write fluently ENGLISH & FRENCH
  • Other languages are considered as a plus
