Job Description – Pump Operator
Department:
Operations & Maintenance – Utilities
Reporting To: Supervisor / Mechanical Engineer
Location: Yas Island
Job Purpose:
Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of utility pumping systems, including stormwater, irrigation, sewage, and potable water pumps, ensuring continuous service, monitoring system parameters, and supporting routine and emergency maintenance activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor pumps for stormwater, irrigation, sewage, and domestic water systems.
- Record operational data including flow rates, pressure, level readings, and pump cycles.
- Identify abnormal noise, vibration, leaks, or pressure drops and escalate issues immediately.
- Perform visual inspections of mechanical equipment, motors, valves, and electrical panels.
- Support mechanical team in lubrication, valve isolation, flushing, or dewatering procedures.
- Coordinate with SCADA/Control Room or Supervisor for startup/shutdown of equipment.
- Ensure pump station cleanliness, proper signage, and safe access routes.
- Monitor alarms, reset fault signals where authorized, and log incident reports.
- Assist with confined space entry preparations (gas testing, ventilation, safety gear).
Skills Required:
- Familiarity with pump types: submersible, centrifugal, and booster systems.
- Ability to read gauges, understand flow diagrams, and respond to alarms.
- Knowledge of pump control panels, float switches, and pressure monitoring.
- Physical stamina for fieldwork in hot and confined areas.
- Basic troubleshooting and communication skills.
Qualifications:
- Technical Certification or relevant experience in Mechanical Operations.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in utility pump station operations.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety protocols including LOTO and confined space.
Health & Safety:
- Always wear PPE when operating pumps or entering utility enclosures.
- Comply with site RAMS and confined space procedures.
- Report hazards, leaks, or incidents immediately to Supervisor.
Authority Matrix:
- Authorized to operate pumps and record data within designated scope.
- Not authorized to perform mechanical or electrical repairs independently.
