3. JOB PURPOSE

 

The candidate will deliver all management reporting on behalf of ENGIE Southern Africa to the Dubai regional hub, Paris Head Office, and ENGIE Southern Africa, reporting to the Country CFO, local Executive Team and to the management of each active Global Business Unit (GBU) in the country.

 

The scope includes follow up and monitoring of all deliverables from SMART (ENGIE global consolidation tool) input to completion of the Monthly/ Quarterly Business Review (MBR/ QBR) and all related deliverables and queries.

 

Reporting will include assistance and support for the accounting team with the input of financial data on SMART and review and challenge of the data to ensure accurate and timely input. Variance analysis and reporting against comparative periods ensuring results are in line with expectations and supported by applicable KPIs/ underlying. Addressing all requested financial information from Group ensuring accurate and timely deliverables provided.

 

Additionally, the oversight and reporting of the bottom-up Annual Budget and Medium-Term Plan (MTP) process. And compilation and monitoring of the monthly top-down Best Estimate taking into account risks and opportunities with a clear expectation of full year results in key financial metrics of EBIT, CFFO, Net Debt and Capex.

 

The candidate will be expected to work closely with the accounting team, Financial Managers of the assets and all other relevant parties to deliver on their scope.

 

This position will challenge the status quo and suggest improvements as appropriate.

 

4. Key Accountabilities

Key Activities

Budgets and Plans

  • Lead and manage the annual budget and medium-term planning process for ENGIE Southern Africa to produce an outcome that conforms to ENGIE requirements and sets appropriate targets and objectives for ENGIE Southern Africa. Streamline the process to deliver an excellent quality budget and medium-term plan with the least amount of effort.

Forecasting

  • Lead and manage the monthly forecasting process to enable the assessment ENGIE Southern Africa’s progress towards its targets and to take appropriate action in light of that information. Streamline the process to deliver an excellent quality forecast each month with the least amount of effort.

Management reporting

  • Ensure fit-for-purpose management reporting is provided to each GBU, and asset (as required), to the local Executive Team, and to stakeholders throughout ENGIE including region hub in Dubai, head office in Paris.

Transformation

  • Develop with the relevant stakeholders a program of transformation of ENGIE Southern Africa’s systems and processes to deliver on the vision for Finance of excellence in planning, forecasting and management reporting.

5. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Essential Qualifications:

  • CA (SA)/ CIMA/ ACCA or NQF equivalent.

3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The development of utility-scale energy projects and subsequent participation in government and corporate tenders in Engie Southern Africa is led by a Business Development Department and supported by the Engineering Department. The general role of a Technical Project Lead (TPL) is to:

  • Define and Lead the technical aspects of projects in Pre-Development (Feasibility), Development (Bid/Tender) and Final Development Stage (Financial Close) stage, including interfacing with internal stakeholders, engineering consultants, technology providers, suppliers and contractors with the aim of:
    • maturing technical solutions through each phase
    • improving bid competitiveness
    • and ensuring technical governance and sustainability criteria are respected (quality, health & safety, efficiency, environmental compliance) for the construction, operation and maintenance of the asset. 
  • Be responsible for choice of technologies, technical configuration and for setting relevant performance, statutory, safety and quality requirements.
  • Be responsible for the prescription, procurement specification, adjudication and management of technical services and products.
  • Be responsible for drafting and negotiating owner techno-commercial specifications, including the incorporation of the latest group experience and technical guidelines.
  • Be in charge of all technical-related agreements during the development phase, including documentation drafting and contractual negotiation (e.g. EPC, PPA, OMA, LTSA, OE, LTA, IE etc).
  • Define procurement strategies and construction strategies in collaboration with the Business Development Department, Procurement Department and Construction Department.
  • Prepare Capex and Opex costs including market consultation and integrating feedback from Group assets and Group specialists.
  • Prepare the Operations phase philosophy and technical related documents (OM organization chart, O&M references, O&M Philosophy, etc.).
  • Assess and evaluate technical risks and advise and/or draft professional reports during the various stages of the project approval process.
  • Perform technology watch and share knowledge within the Engineering team.

5. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Education

  • Engineering Qualification: BSc, BEng or BTech

Core Experience & Skills

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in the power generation sector, specifically able to demonstrate experience and engineering expertise in Onshore Wind technology, including :
    • Ability to scope conceptual layouts/configurations and conduct preliminary wind resource and yield assessments on WindPro or equivalent software
    • Ability to specify and review designs and applicable standards
    • Ability to specify WTG, BOP and plant performance requirements
  • A good understanding of the techno-economic life cycle and risk profile of a power project and knowledge in financial indicators for project follow-up
  • A reasonable understanding of power plant development, the IPP model and the associated Project Finance technical requirements and interfaces.
  • Experience in scoping the technical works, reviewing & evaluating technical proposals, setting & assessing the performance of the works, and providing lifecycle advisory, guidance and recommendations.
  • Experience in leading and project/contract managing technical workstreams and internal/external stakeholders to drive the overall project objectives. 
  • Experience in translating technical requirements into commercial & contractual concepts in collaboration with the BD, Legal and Finance teams.

Advantageous Experience & Skills

  • Experience across multiple power generation technologies
  • Experience across multiple project phases (development, construction, commissioning, operations. decommissioning)
  • Experience with various project types and structures (greenfield, brownfield, acquisitions, divestments, project finance, equity finance, government and corporate PPAs).

1.  JOB DETAILS:

Position Title:

Trainee - Mechanical Technician (18 Months Fixed Term Contract) – AVON PLANT

2.  JOB PURPOSE:

  • To train as a mechanical technician, to undertake a structured training program of practical work in order to gain the required skills and knowledge to support the maintenance team.

 

  • To ensure plant Mechanical equipment is maintained as per procedures documented in the Maintenance Management System (Maximo) and as per instructions of the Mechanical Engineer;

 

  • To assist Mechanical Engineer ensuring that all Mechanical equipment is well maintained and all notifications of planned and unplanned work are completed on time.

 

3.  KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Description

  • Observing, learning and understanding a wide range of engineering skills and processes while under the instruction of skilled technical staff.
  • To be able to demonstrate these skills and processes as the training period progresses by working independently or with a team, to undertake tasks as instructed and increasing overall contribution to the maintenance department.
  • Learning and understanding the importance of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) within the workspace.
  • Participate in the site HSE programs.
  • To develop the ability to read technical drawings and process and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID’s)
  • To develop the skills to construct or modify apparatus and instruments from verbal instructions and drawings to a high degree of precision.
  • To learn how to maintain workshop and plant equipment and to perform repairs.
  • To maintain a logbook over the duration of the training period, recording projects that have been undertaken and the skills learned.
  • To maintain and to ensure general good housekeeping of the workplace and workshop areas.
  • To maintain a smart appearance and to act in a professional and respectful manner at all times.
  • Participate to fault finding activities as necessary along with the maintenance team to determine failure conditions and to perform the required repairs;
  • Undertakes other duties as may be expected within reason.
  • Assumes ownership of plant Mechanical equipment and strives to keep them in the best possible condition

 

 

 

 

4.  JOB CONTEXT:

 

  • The Job Holder will be based at Avon Peaking Power Plant
  • Peakers Operations (Pty) Ltd (“the Company”) operates two open cycle peaking power facilities through its O&M Agreements with the Owners of Dedisa Peaking Power Pty Ltd and Avon Peaking Power Pty Ltd;

 

  • Dedisa Peaking Power Plant and Avon Peaking Power Plant has capacity of 342 MW and 685 MW respectively;

 

  • The Company is fully owned by ENGIE with registered office: Block E, Lincolnwood Office Park, Woodlands Drive, Woodmead, 2191, Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa;

 

  • The Owner Company is 38% owned by ENGIE, 25% by Mitsui, 27% by BEE SPV and 10% by BBBEE SPV;

 

  • The projects are Independent Peaking Power Generation projects, having a 15 years Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Eskom Holdings as a single off-taker

 

 

5.  COMMUNICATION AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

The Job Holder will work and communicate with:

  • Internal: The Maintenance, Operation and HSE Department;
  • The Job Holder must communicate with their own team (other Mechanical Technicians), Mechanical Engineer and Contractors as necessary.

 

6.  QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Essential Qualifications:

  • An accredited Mechanical Eng National Diploma or Degree Mechanical Engineering/ N6 with trade test certificate.

 

 

Experience:

  • At least 1 to 2 years’ experience
  • Use of computerized systems (Databases, Word Processors, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint)
  • Experience in the maintenance of a power plant is an advantage.
  • Theoretical, practical training an added advantage

Language:

 

  • English Language: excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Afrikaans/Zulu/Xhosa is an added advantage
