Cassandre Beaugrand wins first round of the Melilla European Cup

By ENGIE - 22 April 2021 - 14:51

ENGIE sponsors nine other elite athletes like Cassandre, as they prepare for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, due to begin on 23 July. What is the aim of this sponsorship? To provide all the energy they need to qualify and win a medal!

A victorious return to competition for our Team ENGIE triathlete, who on Sunday won the first round of the European Cup in Melilla (a Spanish enclave in North Africa).

In this year's first international competition, the mixed relay world champion took on the 69 other competitors in a sprint format with 750m swimming, 19km cycling and 5km running.

Cassandre came out on top with a time of 57 minutes and 7 seconds, beating the Italian Angelica Olmo by 18 seconds and her fellow Frenchwoman Léonie Periault by 20 seconds.

As a Team ENGIE member for the last three years, and at just 23 years of age, our ambassador in Poissy is aiming to take part in her second Olympics in 2021.

With a little less than 100 days to go until the Tokyo Games, Cassandre is still in the running to represent France in the individual and mixed relay. The next important date is 15 May for the start of the World Triathlon Series (WTS) in Yokohama, Japan: an important deadline for Cassandre and all the other members of the French team, with Olympic qualifications likely to be at stake.
