GEMS operates as an intermediary in energy markets, catering to both internal and external clientele. The Energy Management UK Business Platform, representing in the UK, distinguishes itself as a compact, highly specialized, and cooperative unit delivering exceptional outcomes, with ambitious growth prospects.
About the Role
The role of the Quant is to combine in-depth business knowledge, strong analytical skills and appetite for coding in order to contribute to the Energy Management UK mission, with focus on power & gas trading activities.
Key responsibilities:
- Direct support of Origination and Trading with structuring activities such as:
- Pricing renewable PPAs.
- Pricing of exotic options for power and gas, in particular storage options and CSS Options.
- Valuation of risk premiums for structured deals. Support the term trading desk with quantitative analysis such as back test of trading strategies and quantification of risk exposure.
- Support to the short-term trading desk with analysis such as optimisation of flexibility in short term markets and backtest of execution strategies.
- Transversal coordination with other teams in GEMS, in particular Expertise Centre for Quantitative Research and Modeling.
- Ownership and maintenance of pricing methodologies and models.
- Identify areas for improvement in the quantitative area and report past and future activities.
- Familiarity with data management across GEMS.
- Identify new sources of data relevant for market intelligence. Coordination with Data teams to ensure its applicability to business activities and incorporation in appropriate data repositories
Requirements:
- University degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Sciences, Financial Engineering, Statistics, Physics. A PhD or second degree or PhD is likely to be an advantage.
- We welcome applicants who are just beginning their quantitative career in the energy sector and more experienced candidates alike.
- Knowledge of statistical and mathematical modelling, in particular applied to time series and financial markets.
- Experience in academic research is an advantage. • Optimisation skills, in particular, linear programming. Experience of stochastic optimisation would be useful.
- Knowledge of option pricing theory • Good communication skills, in particular ability to convey complex topics to a non-technical audience.
- Good coding skills, preferably python. Others such as R, Julia or C# can be an advantage as is experience with cloud computing.
- Good understanding of power & gas markets in UK or globally
- Experienced using GitHub for collaborative coding projects.
- Data analysis and data science skills.
- Experience in trading environments.
- More advance knowledge on financial instruments and quantitative modeling such us stochastic processes, Montecarlo pricing, optimal decision making etc.
