About the Role 

 

The role of the Quant is to combine in-depth business knowledge, strong analytical skills and appetite for coding in order to contribute to the Energy Management UK mission, with focus on power & gas trading activities.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Direct support of Origination and Trading with structuring activities such as:
  • Pricing renewable PPAs.
  • Pricing of exotic options for power and gas, in particular storage options and CSS Options.
  • Valuation of risk premiums for structured deals. Support the term trading desk with quantitative analysis such as back test of trading strategies and quantification of risk exposure.
  • Support to the short-term trading desk with analysis such as optimisation of flexibility in short term markets and backtest of execution strategies.
  • Transversal coordination with other teams in GEMS, in particular Expertise Centre for Quantitative Research and Modeling.
  • Ownership and maintenance of pricing methodologies and models.
  • Identify areas for improvement in the quantitative area and report past and future activities.
  • Familiarity with data management across GEMS.
  • Identify new sources of data relevant for market intelligence. Coordination with Data teams to ensure its applicability to business activities and incorporation in appropriate data repositories

Requirements:

  • University degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Sciences, Financial Engineering, Statistics, Physics. A PhD or second degree or PhD is likely to be an advantage.
  • We welcome applicants who are just beginning their quantitative career in the energy sector and more experienced candidates alike.
  • Knowledge of statistical and mathematical modelling, in particular applied to time series and financial markets.
  • Experience in academic research is an advantage. • Optimisation skills, in particular, linear programming. Experience of stochastic optimisation would be useful.
  • Knowledge of option pricing theory • Good communication skills, in particular ability to convey complex topics to a non-technical audience.
  • Good coding skills, preferably python. Others such as R, Julia or C# can be an advantage as is experience with cloud computing.
  • Good understanding of power & gas markets in UK or globally
  • Experienced using GitHub for collaborative coding projects.
  • Data analysis and data science skills.
  • Experience in trading environments.
  • More advance knowledge on financial instruments and quantitative modeling such us stochastic processes, Montecarlo pricing, optimal decision making etc.

About the Role 

  

Based in London, the GEMS UK team provides trading services for several internal and external clients in the UK. We provide a range of optimisation, hedging, market operations and analytics services for these clients and the 24/7 shift trading team play a vital role in delivering these services.  

 

The shift trading team is seeking motivated individuals with specific proven capability and knowledge of the trading and operational landscape in GB Energy markets (or any other energy market where you have practical experience) gained in any of the following areas:  

  • Short term power and/or gas operations; 
  • Short term power and/or gas optimisation; 
  • System and/or market analysis;  
  • Regulatory analysis and development; 
  • Power/Gas system management; or, 
  • Power station control room operations. 

 

Numerate, commercially-driven and educated to degree level, the successful candidate will exhibit the following skills: 

  • Demonstrated numerate capability; 
  • Clear written and verbal communication, fluent in English; 
  • Ability and confidence to take ownership of issues, managing to resolution; and, 
  • Decisive in the face of incomplete information. 
  • Candidates that additionally hold proven coding skills will be considered favourably. 

 

The shift trader will: 

  • Optimise assets and positions in short term markets. We currently have a range of assets in our management including Pumped Storage, CCGT, Solar and Wind, Battery Storage and Gas Storage; 
  • Identify and drive implementation of value adding strategies in short term;  
  • Interface with clients, control rooms and other key internal and external stakeholders regularly; 
  • Be flexible, working as part of a 24/7 shift team; 
  • Accurately undertake operational tasks and procedures; 
  • Pursue continuous improvement of processes and systems; and 
  • Work in line with regulatory (particularly REMIT, TCLC and IOLC) and general policy requirements 

 

 

The shift trading team is a core part of GEMS UK’s ambitious growth plans and the successful candidate will certainly gain a significant amount of experience and exposure in managing a wide variety of assets and commercial processes and positions. In particular, the role will provide the successful candidate with the unique opportunity to become involved with the optimisation of the UK’s largest pumped hydro facility, First Hydro.

What You’ll Bring

Responsibilities:

The B2B Information Officer is part of the B2B Performance team that provides middle office services to the B2B supply business and will be responsible for the following:

B2B sales support

Improve excellence and efficiency in B2B sales by:

  • Assist in the sourcing of data for B2B customers for opportunity prospecting and analysis

What You Can Expect

As the Associate Software Developer in Houston, Texas for ENGIE’s North America’s Global Energy Management & Supply (GEMS) Group, you will work alongside a software development team to design and develop web and cloud-based applications using the Microsoft .NET framework and Azure platform. Every day, you will report to the Director of Solutions Development to assist with meeting goals of the team’s transformation through implementing redesigned systems and processing using the latest digital technology.

 

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or MIS curriculum and a minimum of two (2) years of experience with C# and .NET frameworks in a professional work setting; In lieu of a four-year degree, you should bring a total of a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in which you have gained an understanding of software development where you have designed and developed web and cloud-based applications
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server 
  • Understanding of how to use Azure services such as Azure App Services, Azure SQL, and Azure Storage
  • Knowledge of Git or other version control systems
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, and efficient code
  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug applications
  • Accept and perform code reviews based on defined coding standards and contributes to coding standards
  • Possess the ability to  coordinate with product owners, architects, and system owners in the testing of new features

Compensation

Salary Range: $74,500 – $114,195 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
