What You Can Expect

As the Remote Operations Control Center “ROCC” Operator, you will be responsible for 24 x 7 remote operations and monitoring of a rapidly growing standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) across the US for current Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) markets. This is an engaged role that will carry out planned maintenance remotely and alert the field operations to implement maintenance of issues needing attention that have flagged overnight.

 

Every day this role carries three major components of responsibility the ROCC will be responsible for:

 

  • Safety, where you carry out check in / check out procedure of field staff for all operating assets, and interact with SCADA to engage/disengage equipment (site breakers, ESS units, etc), and monitor SCADA and internal automated alerting tools for severe alarms / warnings and engage emergency protocols
  • Grid-facing, monitor voltage profile of transmission level BESS assets and interact with transmission and grid operators, coordinate outage scheduling and input to Transmission Distribution Service Provider and Independent Systems Operators “TDSP/ISO” interfaces, coordinate test request submission and approval with grid operators, and coordinate real-time asset testing during commissioning of upcoming facilities
  • Remote Asset Operations - Coordinate unit restoration with Field Service personnel, carry out planned maintenance activities (state of charge calibration, voltage balancing, and testing) remotely via equipment SCADA platforms, and perform first line troubleshooting of unplanned reactive maintenance

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum high school diploma, or two (2) year diploma/certificate in a technical program (Electrical or Instrumentation controls), other degrees/certificates may be considered
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in remote operations and control in either ROCC or Field equivalent experience in the power industry, or equivalent experience in control room operations in the power/energy/oil & gas, or military equivalent experience in procedure adherence, control rooms operations and monitoring the ships/submarines/or aircraft control room/operations
  • Experience with HSE protocols
  • Experience with SCADA interfaces

 

 

Additional Details

  • This role is office based, requires physical presence in Houston, TX and will have a work schedule that is night and day shift rotation

Compensation

Salary Range:  $36.00 - $54.00 USD hourly

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

What You Can Expect

As the Senior Systems Engineer (SE) is a key player of a diverse team developing cutting-edge energy storage solutions. This position requires technical expertise in battery storage technologies, with focus on lithium-ion batteries. This role includes identifying project requirements, designing battery energy storage systems, specifying system components, supporting the business development team, managing projects from design to operation, and supporting the operations team. This position is part of the Flexible Generation & Retail Global Business Unit (FGBU) in North America. 

 

Every day you will work closely with Subject Matter Experts (SME) to specify suitable system components, define the system design, calculate the size of the battery system throughout the life of the project, and generate comprehensive bills-of-material for material and labor cost evaluation. Additionally, you will manage all technical aspects on project execution, from the design phase through development, installation, commissioning, and operation; primary EPC engineering interface.

 

  • Provide support to internal business team in engaging prospective utility companies and Authority Having Jurisdiction
  • Identify and articulate business development requirements
  • Formulate high-level detailed system design drawings and layouts for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Primary interface with the project Owner’s Engineer
  • Ensure Engie’s BESS internal guidelines are followed
  • Train Operations & Maintenance (O&M) technician and support with troubleshooting system issues
  • Responsible for oversight, considering company policies and procedures, codes and standards, and regulations, of engineering consultants’ and other contractors’ electrical designs and construction as required to deliver the assigned projects
  • Act independently with minimal direction and, as a project team member, must be able to work cooperatively to deliver quality electrical engineering for the project, interconnection agreements, and the team’s goals for a successful project
  • Must keep up to date on new technologies and regulatory conditions including codes, industry standards, best practices, customer requirements, and other relevant standards.
  • Review system drawing sets for purposes of bidding, permitting, and construction in accordance with ENGIE standards, NEC, IEEE and any other local codes

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in renewable systems engineering
  • Extensive expertise in battery technology for storage applications including batteries, inverters, transformers, substations, protection and controls, battery management and energy management systems
  • Profound technical knowledge, particularly in the realm of battery storage technologies or renewable energy systems is a plus.
  • Ability to create, read and interpret construction plans and specifications

• Searching each account for any payment inconsistencies or errors including, but not limited to:

Education/Certification/Knowledge

About the team

 

The Renewables & Urban Business Line of Laborelec provides business-focused research and expertise services to energy operators worldwide in the fields of solar, wind, hybrid and flexible assets, future home and collectivities, e-Mobility, lighting and energy storage.  

Within the R&U business line, different types of projects are managed: desktop studies, system (pre)design and sizing, pilot project realization, solution development, measurement campaigns, inspections, implementation, monitoring, development of power & energy management systems (EMS), optimizing the operation of the energy system. These projects are typically performed in collaboration with research or industrial partners and operational entities of ENGIE.  

These projects combine many of Laborelec’s expertises (energy storage, renewable energy technologies, electric mobility smart charging, power network studies & measurements, cyber security, IT solutions, …) and are therefore executed in strong interaction with multiple teams within Laborelec. Many projects also involve collaborations with third parties. 

 

 

What you’ll be doing

 

18 month rotation program that offers you the possibility of being active on operational and R&D projects as an Expert or a Project Manager within our Business Line Renewables & Urban.

The type of projects can range from desktop studies or pilot project realization to solution development and measurement campaigns in domains related to solar, wind, storage, hydrogen, green mobility, energy management and hybridisation of technologies (incl. digital and data management). The exact program will be defined at the start of your activities depending on your affinities and needs. A personal development program and follow-up will also be in place to support and guide you during your learning process

JOB PURPOSE: 
Operation & Maintenance of ELV related infrastructures of Datacenter (BMS, DCIM, CCTV, FA & FS, ACS, etc.) and all associated system. Also to ensure integrity & high availability of ELV infrastructure to ensure maximum performance and efficiency.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance activities and minor modifications on building services systems.
  • Performing maintenance testing and checks within the facility including Fire Alarm, Fire suppression ASD, emergency lighting, CCTV, access control, BMS, DCIM, Vesda system, PLC etc.
  • Fault finding and fault diagnosis, functional testing of all ELV systems.
  • First Line Response to help desk calls for failure/breakdown of ELV systems on site
  • Ensure all works are carried in line with Company Procedures and Policies, Health and Safety, Control of Hazardous materials, in line with COSHH regulations and PPE.
  • Understanding of ELV schematic diagrams, control diagrams, control circuits.
  • Work with DC managers and other business leaders to coordinate for optimizing plant safety, performance, reliability, sustainability, and efficiency.
  • Maximizing performance by monitoring performance, troubleshooting problems and outages, scheduling upgrades, and collaborating with service providers on optimization.
  • Managing Service Requests (SR) and ensuring they are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensures proper inventory levels for spare parts for all facilities equipment.
  • Approval of Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) programs ready for implementation to Computer Managed Maintenance System (CMMS) tool.
  • Development of ISA sheets for temperature, level, flow, and pressure transmitters along with ISA sheets for control valves, positioners, analytical, and various other types of instrumentation.
  • Development of drawings for control panels, power distribution, junction boxes. Included in the drawings are the general arrangement, internal layout, schematics and interconnection and wire diagrams
  • Development of logic diagrams in the International Automation format for complex logic devices such as Programmable Logical Controller and Distributed Control System
  • Performing inspections, testing, and commission of the facility systems.
  • Work individually and as part of a team to develop new products, support existing products, test and evaluate equipment.
  • Create the job card in CAFM App as per site requirements and follow up the Jod cards until closed by the technician.
  • Should be able to resolve issues related to BMS and DCIM system.
  • Should possess knowledge for troubleshooting the system glitch and malfunction of commands.
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering documentation, electrical diagrams, and standard operating procedures
  • Support any 24/7 building needs and activities as required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Familiar with Data Center guidelines and standards as per Tier-III design standards and ASME/ ASHRAE/ NFPA.
  • Ability to handle rotation shifts on Monthly/weekly basis.
  • Hands on experience in sensors, controllers and all ELV related devices.
  • Skill in installation, repair, and maintenance of all types of ELV system and their components.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate to vendors and make decisions using industry standard knowledge (Controls theory, protocols Modbus / BACnet, mechanical / electrical systems, passive infrastructure
  • Should be proactive in extracting monthly reports and highlighting any abnormalities in system.

 

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Basic Understanding towards Data Center Critical environment.
  • Ability to read, write and speak in English.

SUMMMARY:
This position supports departmental operations; responsibilities include reading and interpreting utility bills and researching account details for the accurate data entry of on-going, resource and historical bills.

 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Read and interpret utility bills; research account details for the accurate data entry of on-going, resource and historical bills.
• Research and resolve account number/meter number changes.
• Review invoices for address change confirmation.
• Communicate / interface with internal customers to ensure data integrity.
• Indentification and research of billing situations requiring immediate attention or further actions.
• Assist in sorting / opening of incoming mail.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification/Knowledge

• Requires a high school diploma or GED.
• Minimum 1 year prior job experience, preferred.

 

Skills/Abilities: 

• Must have solid computer skills, including familiarity with Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet.
• Must have 10-key by touch, with a minimum of 9500 keystrokes per hour, with accuracy rating of 99% or above.
