MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

 

  • Day to day efficient management of all plant operation activities through a team of site based staff according to good utility practice, dispatch instructions, the company rules and procedures, O&M guidelines, legal, environmental, contractual and other requirements;
  • Supporting yearly production plan taking into consideration planned outages demand requirements, plant conditions, technical plan;
  • Addressing power plan operational problems, initiating and controlling operation's related investigations, determine impact on productions and possible production losses.
  • Approving emergency operating procedures in the event of major plant breakdown and Initiating and approving procedures relating to routine operating.
  • Formulating and managing the implementation of operating tactical plans in support of Power Generation strategies;
  • Aligning the strategic direction of the department with Power Generation requirements
  • Checking that all relevant outage activities are included in the recommissioning programme and that programmes confirm to production plan;
  • Analysing data and trends
  • Determining cause of incidents and/ or obtain specialist assistance
  • Developing and implementing actions to eliminate reoccurrence i.e. recommend replacement of plant component, enhance training, change operating specifications etc.
  • Analysing all emergent priorities , defects, taking into account production plan requirements, implication and associated risk to plant and people
  • Monitoring progress of critical activities, identify progress problems and take action to correct
  • Aligning training and development tactical plans with HR development strategy
  • Approving the operating skills development plan and skills pipeline to retain and develop critical and core skills
  • Communication with load dispatch and fuel dispatch as per Grid Code;
  • Responsible for the operations QA/QC and root cause analysis program;
  • Ensures reporting as per contractual and business requirement (O&M guideline);
  • Responsible for ENGIE group Safety Rules and Permit-to-Work system and driving the safety culture
  • Organize performance evaluation and succession planning for key staff in the operation department;
  • Maintaining high standards of management, ethics and leadership;
  • Adherence and active participation in establishing, implementing and executing Quality, Health, Safety and Environment policies and standards;
  • Addressing industrial relations related issues by maintaining discipline in the department

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical Engineer
  • Relevant management qualification(MDP) is and added advantage
  • 10 years of experience in the operation of a large power plant
  • 3 years in the capacity of Operations manager, preferable in a large thermos solar power plant
  • Knowledge and experience in Oil*Gas, Petrochemical or in the chemical industry,
  • Experience in leading and management people.

Coordinar, estandarizar y participar de las actividades relacionadas al proceso de comisionamiento de los nuevos proyectos. Asimismo del proceso de estandarización e implementación del permiso de trabajo y procedimientos de Bloqueo y Consignación.

 

Funciones:

  • Participar activamente en terreno de las etapas de comisionamiento de nuevos proyectos, actualizaciones y/o ampliaciones, para asegurar completo alineamiento con estándares O&M de Engie, revisión de ingeniería, contacto permanente con áreas de Integración, Operación, Implementación, así como participación y validación de pruebas y recepción de equipos en nuevos proyectos.
  • Apoyar al equipo de Operaciones en la puesta en marcha de la planta, verificando que todos los componentes funcionen correctamente y que la planta esté lista para operar según su diseño.
  • Desarrollar e Implementar procedimientos de bloqueo y consignación de equipos o sistemas en las plantas de R-GBU (Seguridad eléctrica).
  • Asegurarse de que los procedimientos de bloqueo cumplan con las regulaciones de seguridad y estén actualizados.
  • Proporcionar formación y capacitación sobre los procedimientos de bloqueo y las prácticas seguras al personal de la compañía, contratistas, y cualquier persona que participe en trabajos dentro de las plantas.
  • Realizar auditorías y revisiones periódicas de los procedimientos de bloqueo para garantizar su eficacia.

What You Can Expect

As our Wind Power Site Area Manager, for ENGIE’s Ontario West Wind Farms region you bear the responsibility for overseeing all day-to-day operation, maintenance, fiscal and administrative functions of four (4) Wind Power project sites. In your capacity as the head of safety, it is imperative to ensure that all permits and reports are current, valid, and in compliance with Federal, Provincial & Municipal regulations and environmental requirements, company policies and procedures; company’s annual operations plan; legal and contractual requirements; and good wind site generation practices while operating in a clean, safe, efficient and economical manner. You will be tasked with all responsibilities under environmental legislation; develop and ensure adherence to proper procedures to prevent environmental spills, monitor & record all non-compliances, ensure proper training of personnel on transportation of dangerous goods; promote awareness of the environment and the requirements of environmental compliance

 

  • Work closely with the Canadian Region Senior H&S Advisor & Engie NA Renewables H&S Team to implement risk based programs, prepare & execute emergency plans as well as keep such documents up to date
  • Prepare and is responsible for the execution and consistent updating of emergency plans
  • Communicate regularly with ENGIE NA company representatives (Head of Renewable Operations Canada, VP of Operations, Wind & Solar Regional Manager, Asset Management, Partnership Management, Accountants, Engineering & Human Resources) for exchange, consultation, guidance and required approvals
  • Maintain open communications with ROCC & the 24 hour desk operations. Ensure changes in plant status are communicated immediately to these individuals as well as all external and / or regulatory counterparts
  • Ensure compliance with Purchase Power Agreements, Utility connection agreements, Wind Turbine OEM service agreements and C2C O&M Agreements with emphasis on safety while maximizing profits and minimizing penalties
  • Monitor budget variances on a regular basis and prepares/monitors long term budget forecasts. Provides monthly variance reports in a timely manner

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • High school diploma/ technical degree or equivalent education where you gain knowledge and or experience with leadership, management, communication, organizational, operational and prioritization skills
  • Must have five (5) years’ experience in a related industry where you have experience with industrial electrical equipment, power generations, thermal generations, line, and utility scale equipment
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in leadership or supervisory role of technical, operations or maintenance personnel
  • Working knowledge of wind power generating equipment and technologies and substations to identify, categorize and troubleshoot
  • Must be able to certify, as required by Federal, Provincial & Municipal agencies, compliance with permits and regulations as the authorized agent for the company
  • Must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined space (crawl spaces, shafts, small enclosed areas) as well as work at various heights and in adverse conditions during operations, shutdowns, and in fire/emergency activities
  • Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses
  • Knowledge of using equipment suitable for lifting up to 50 lbs, if necessary 

 

 

Additional Details

  • This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis
  • Must be available to travel domestically / internationally up to 20% of the time
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license/clean driving record;
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • The position consists of 70% work indoors and 30% work outdoors; outdoor work may expose the employee to weather conditions

 

Compensation

Salary Range: $119,600 – 175,260 CAD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

What You Can Expect

As Solar Operations Supervisor, you will supervise and support operations of a 5 utility-scale solar plants located in the Virginia and North Carolina area totaling 285MWac. You will be responsible for supervising the day to day operations, personnel supervision and maintenance and the safety of all personnel and equipment on the sites. You bear the responsibility for overseeing total employment, training, schedules, safety, and the day-to-day operations of the site. In your capacity as lead of safety, it is imperative to ensure that all permits and reports are current, valid, and in compliance with both federal and state regulatory agencies.

 

  • Your supervisor role extends to leading a team comprising five technicians. Utilizing systems like Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), you will monitor daily asset performance and regulatory compliance to meet standards set by organizations such as the National Electrical Renewables Council (NERC).
  • Your responsibilities involve utilizing various computer-based systems, ensuring the timely update and maintenance of all documentation
  • Assist the Regional Manager in the preparation of annual operating plans, budgets and controls for operating at budgeted levels with appropriate justification and approval for variances including sites’ outages (compliant with dispatching needs) and operating shift schedules to accommodate facility operation and scheduled maintenance
  • Collaboration with cross-functional management may be necessary to provide reports on the status, progress, and development of various projects on-site.
  • May need to provide technical and management support for the operations of the solar farm site
  • Actively promotes a safety-minded working environment and safety programs consistent with the ENGIE Health and Safety Principles, ENGIE One Safety, including ENGIE’s 9 Life Saving Rules
  • Ensure that  sites’ Environmental Management System is followed and deliverables are documented
  • Must be willing to attain substation technician certification within 12 months of hire

3. JOB PURPOSE

 

The Solar PV Technician is responsible to oversee all preventative and corrective maintenance conducted by the O&M Operator while also making sure that this is done safely. The technician must closely shadow the Operator’s activities with focus on the major equipment such as the inverters, transformers and trackers. Monitor and report on all events with focus on understanding day to day operations and maintenance of major equipment with a focus on maximizing availability and performance (PR) of the plant. The oversight and monitoring should be conducted in a diligent and comprehensive manner to enable self-performance of O&M by Engie in the future. This role is based in Pofadder, Northern Cape. Preference will be given to candidates from the nearest towns to Pofadder

 

4. Key Accountabilities

Key Activities

Major equipment  

  • Warranties – ensure the inverters, transformers and other major equipment are operated and maintained in accordance with OEM requirements to prevent any risk to warranties.
  • Operations and maintenance – oversight of major equipment operations with a focus to fully understand the day to day operations and maintenance activities of the major equipment.
  • Failure reporting - Interrogate and review all flash and failure reports related to major equipment faults for sufficiency and accuracy.
  • Event logs – ensure the logging of all relevant O&M data to ensure a full understanding of warnings and faults is developed to fully understand the failure causes and remedies
  • Fault trending – review relevant fault and O&M data to enable a good understanding of fault trends and assist the Performance Engineer with mitigation of resulting down time.

Preventative / Scheduled maintenance 

Oversee the Operator’s Scheduled Maintenance (SM) activities which includes but not limited to the following:

  • Review all SM Planning for adequacy and compliance to warranty requirements - annual, monthly, weekly, daily.
  • Optimization of SM – ensure opportunities to schedule concurrent activities to reduce downtime are identified timeously.
  • RAMS – ensure risk assessments and method statements are in place before any work is conducted as per SA OHS requirements.  
  • Reporting – oversee and manage all Operators OM related reporting in support of the site Supervisor.

 

Key preventative maintenance activities include but are not limited to:

  • Substation maintenance – main transformer, primary HV  switchgear and MV switch gear.
  • Central Inverters and inverter transformers – scheduled maintenance as per the OEM maintenance schedules.
  • DC combiner boxes - as per maintenance schedules including IV testing
  • PV Modules -  infra red drone scans .
  • Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) – oversee Operators use of their CMMS to ensure a comprehensive record of all preventive maintenance activities.

Corrective maintenance

Oversee the Operator’s Corrective Maintenance (CM) activities which includes but not limited to the following:

  • Reducing the Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) - ensuring minimum time to detect faults – together with the Head Office (HO) monitoring team.
  • Ensure adequate CM activity planning is undertaken by the Operator – timeous checking on availability of spares, special tools and skills / personnel.
  • Authorization - ensuring all works are only carried out by authorized persons.
  • Ensuring CM works are carried out safely – ensuring Lock out and Tag out (LOTO), review of RAMS and last minute risk assessments.
  • Records - ensure adequate records of the CM works are taken in the form of pictures and ensure HO management is kept updated on progress.
  • Ensure that the spares utilization is recorded and inventories updated.

Spares

  • Ensure spares utilization is recorded and the spares inventory is correct and up to date – at least monthly.
  • Critical spares – assist the Head Office (HO) Performance Engineer with fault data and trending to mitigate the mean time between failures (MTBF) caused by lack of critical spares.

Operational and maintenance reporting

  • Provide details in respect of faults and assist Head Office monitoring in ensuring the fault log is always up to date.
  • Attend O&M meetings to ensure proper understanding of equipment Faults and fault trending
  • Provide additional insight, relevant information requested by Head Office  Maintenance Manager and or Performance Engineer for root cause analysis (RCA) or performance reporting purposes
  • Review Operator’s failure flash reports to ensure it is in the agreed format, accurate and comprehensive.

Ad hoc support

  • Provides ad hoc relevant support to Head Office (HO) Maintenance Engineer and HO Engineering and Performance Director when and where required

 

 

5. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a National Diploma in Electrical/ Mechanical Engineering or NQF equivalent (essential)

Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  • A minimum of 2 - 5 years' experience in utility scale renewable energy power plant or relevant industry experience is desired.
  • Working knowledge of solar PV plants is an advantage
  • Experience in switching MV and HV systems and Log Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedure.
  • Demonstrate experience and interest in fault finding and on-site electrical repairs.
  • Able to read and understand schematics and single line diagrams (SLD’s).
  • SCADA – able to retrieve and analyse data to enable trend analysis.
  • Valid driver’s licence.

Language:

  • English Language
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

Business Understanding:

  • Experienced working in complex multinational organisations.
  • Financial systems technical expertise.
  • Understanding of the energy sector.

What You Can Expect

As the Operations Manager for 225 MWAC power plant situated in Gail, TX, called Long Draw Solar, you bear the responsibility for overseeing total employment, training, schedules, safety, and the day-to-day financial operations of the site. In your capacity as lead of safety, it is imperative to ensure that all permits and reports are current, valid, and in compliance with both federal and state regulatory agencies. You will be tasked with the management of vendors, subcontractors, maintenance, and consultants, coordinating efforts with third parties. Additionally, you will handle the troubleshooting of Balance of Plant (BOP) switching, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) functions, and communicate with landowners and local communities.

 

Your managerial role extends to leading a team comprising two technicians. Utilizing systems like Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), you will monitor daily asset performance and regulatory compliance to meet standards set by organizations such as the National Electrical Renewables Council (NERC). Your responsibilities involve utilizing various computer-based systems, ensuring the timely update and maintenance of all documentation. Collaboration with cross-functional management may be necessary to provide reports on the status, progress, and development of various projects on-site.

 

  • May need to provide technical and management support for the operations of the wind farm site
  • Must be willing to attain substation technician certification within 12 months of hire
  • Carries out all responsibilities under environmental legislation to prevent environmental spills
  • Manages a safety program that ensuring the safe operation of the site regarding the public, employees, and equipment
  • Cooperates with internal and third parties regarding safety and regulatory compliance and responds to their recommendations in a timely manner

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • High school diploma/ technical degree or equivalent education where you gain knowledge and or experience with leadership, management, communication, organizational, operational and prioritization skills

  • Must have five (5) years’ experience in a related industry where you have experience with industrial electrical equipment, power generations, thermal generations, line, and utility scale equipment
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in leadership or supervisory role of technical, operations or maintenance personnel
  • Working knowledge of wind power generating equipment and technologies and substations to identify, categorize and troubleshoot
  • Must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined space (crawl spaces, shafts, small enclosed areas) as well as work at various heights and in adverse conditions during operations, shutdowns, and in fire/emergency activities
  • Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses
  • Knowledge of using equipment suitable for lifting up to 50 lbs, if necessary 

 

 

Additional Details

  • Must have the ability to travel domestically and internationally on limited occasions to support other sites
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record
  • Must be willing and able to comply with ENGIE’s policy with respect to COVID vaccination and testing
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • The position consists of 50% work indoors and 50% work outdoors; outdoor work may expose the employee to weather conditions

 

 

Compensation

Salary Range: $91,295 – $147,660 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
