What You Can Expect

ENGIE Supply & Energy Management is responsible for managing the portfolio of electricity, natural gas, environmental products, and bulk commodities for ENGIE and its external clients, on an international level. The Risk team within Supply & Energy Management is responsible for the measurement, control, and reporting of all market-based activities as well as the strategic management of risk capital across these activities, notably the trading & portfolio management activities of Supply & Energy Management, the B2B Retail Supply organization and the Renewable Assets owned by ENGIE North America.

 

As an integral part of this team in Houston, TX and you will report to the Head of Market Risk, Strategy, and you will develop and maintain a sophisticated risk management and control framework while working with commercial and other risk functions to propose, validate and evaluate various risk management strategies.

 

  • As part of the Risk leadership, you will
  • Lead all aspects of the Market Risk, Middle Office, NPA, and Operational Risk functions within GEMS. The candidate will be responsible for developing short and long term strategies for the Supply & Energy Management Market Risk team which is also positioned at the center of the transversal risk governance ENGIE’s all activities in North America
  • Advise Supply & Energy Management leadership on material risks and associated matters within the company’s portfolio
  • Ensure that all risk management policies, procedures, including limits and mandates are adhered to and ensure compliance and remediation in cases of overshoots
  • Ensure that all market, operational risks are assessed and governed, including valuation of assets, products and transactions including (but not limited to) the natural gas park & loan, storage, transport/trans capacity, power options, renewable (wind/solar) contracts, BESS, etc.
  • Ensure that all IT systems, tools and processes used by Risk are performing adequately
  • Work with the Trade Control (including Confirmations), Settlements, and Accounting teams on the trade life cycle activities on daily basis including books, trade entry / modeling / valuation, credit / liquidity / day-one P&L reserve calculations, monthly / quarterly / annual close, etc.
  • Provide overall strategy and direction to the Operational Risk team to improve and automate the Operational Risk (ORE) metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) reporting activities.
  • Provide overall strategy and direction to the NPA team overseeing the New Product Agreement (NPA) process to assess the various risks (i.e. market, credit, operational, settlement, etc.) with any new commodity, region, product, instrument, deal structure.
  • Provide an independent validation of trading and portfolio management strategies, continually engage the Front Office on the hedging/trading strategies, risk controls and risk reporting. Together with the Risk Strategy function, review and verify the tools front office/market risk use to ensure convergence.
  • Oversee cross-functional efforts to modernize and improve risk management and related functions in partnership with other front and back office constituents.
  • Monitor the Renewables & Flex Power and B2B Supply market risks along with other reporting requirements mandated by their respective risk mandates and governance procedures
  • Manage all internal and external audits related to the market risk activities including the price control, contract valuation and Internal Control Management (INCOME)

 

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in a highly numerate subject, e.g., Economics, Engineering, Finance, Math, Physics or other related disciplines
  • A minimum of 10 years of general business experience and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in competitive energy markets
  • Experience and understanding of the energy value chain including but not limited to electricity, gas and environmental product markets
  • Experience and knowledge of proprietary trading operations
  • General knowledge of financial derivatives, hedge instruments, and commodity markets (gas, power, and environmental products)
  • Thorough knowledge of best practices in terms of risk quantification, management, and monitoring
  • Analytical profile, ability to provide precise and solid insights, identify causes and conditions, structure action plans, and propose and defend those to the leadership
  • A focus on deadline driven project management skills for international cross-organizational coordination
  • Team player with the ability to work well with others, open to feedback and debate

 

 

 

Additional Details

Compensation

Salary Range: $150,600 – $230,920 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

What You Can Expect

As a Power Congestion Analyst II, you will report to Director Congestion Trading and provide quantitative and fundamental analytics for US electricity markets to improve grid modeling and congestion analysis. Every day, you will perform cost modeling by using DAYZER to forecast nodal electricity price components and analyze weather patterns and fuel prices to predict the base electricity prices.

 

  • Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and Pennsylvania New Jersey Maryland Interconnection (PJM) Independent System Operator (ISO) congestion analysis
  • Execute production cost models (Dayzer preferred) by systematically analyzing and updating the inputs as appropriate
  • Develop and execute appropriate scenario studies pertinent to the period of study and systematically analyzing the results
  • Develop systematic and repeatable approach to form fundamental views with respect to congestion trading
  • Analyze and determine drivers of Day Ahead and Real Time congestion market outcomes based on macro-fundamentals (supply, demand, renewables) and micro-fundamentals (specific transmission and generation outage impacts, bids, facility limits).
  • Develop and test innovative trade ideas and strategies
  • Identify model gaps by calibrating the model results to market outcomes and determine appropriate solutions
  • Assist with ad-hoc fundamental analyses
  • Participate in ISO meetings as appropriate and assess commercial impacts
  • Collaborate with IT personnel to maintain and improve trade tools
  • Develop and maintain dispatch and flow models, communicating fundamental developments and views to stakeholders
  • Build models to track market fundamentals and regularly benchmark against actualizations

 

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in which you completed courses in Engineering/Business/Finance or relevant disciplines
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in congestion markets analysis, power plant economics, price forecasting, trading, or a related discipline
  • Six (6) months of experience with production cost modeling, congestion analysis or wholesale electricity market experience in the relevant ISO
  • Experience in ERCOT or PJM ISO congestion market
  • Strong understanding of power grid optimization, powerflow shift factors, line-outage distribution factors and contingency analysis

ENGIE UK is delighted to announce our 2025 Graduate Programme for Energy Management, offering a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across various disciplines within the energy sector while contributing to our mission of leading the transition to renewable energy.

 

About the Programme

Our graduate programme is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the energy management landscape at ENGIE. The role provides excellent development opportunities and is accountable for market analysis, business development, and preparation of various types of financial information for internal and external stakeholders. Graduates will have the opportunity to rotate through different departments including:

  • Trading/Origination
  • Global Market Analysis
  • Back Office Finance.

 

Host departments may include Flex Gen Batteries, Renewable Gases UK  and Business Development

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Market Analysis: Conduct thorough market research and analysis to support business development and strategic decision-making.
  • Business Development: Assist in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities within the energy sector.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and present various types of financial information for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project Collaboration: Work collaboratively with different departments, including Trading/Origination, Global Market Analysis, and Back Office Finance, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the energy management landscape.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute knowledge and ideas towards the continuous improvement of processes and practices within the organisation.

 

Required Skills

 

  • Research Skills: Demonstrate extensive research skills to gather and analyse relevant market data.
  • Digital Savvy: Exhibit a strong understanding of digital tools and technologies, with a digital mindset and familiarity with agile ways of working.
  • Financial Acumen: Possess a solid foundation in finance, with the ability to produce accurate work under tight deadlines.
  • Communication Skills: Display excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to engage clients and colleagues and convey complex topics to a non-technical audience.
  • Problem-Solving: Show a collaborative and analytical approach to problem-solving, with a focus on delivering value and making informed decisions.
  • Adaptability: Be receptive to change and demonstrate the ability to work across multiple areas of the business.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Essential: A Master's degree in fields relating to Finance, Economics.
  • Desired: Coding skills
