What you’ll be doing

Your responsibilities as a Product Owner for Internal Digitalization

As a Product Owner for Internal Digitalization, you will play a pivotal role in setting up internal business processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders by analyzing, implementing and maintaining several management applications, services and infrastructure solutions.

 

Specifically this means:

 

  • Partnering with stakeholders from various departments to define clear goals and prioritize initiatives.
  • Project management & business investigation to drive effective implementation of digital solutions.
  • Ensuring compliance with IT security policies, internal auditing, and ISO9001 compliance, promoting a safe and secure digital environment.
  • Collaboration with colleagues and internal & external suppliers to streamline processes and drive innovation.
  • Contributing to the exploration of technologies and solutions available on the market, conducting make-or-buy analysis, and stay abreast of industry trends.

Lab Presentation, team and missions :

 

The CSAI Lab (Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence) has the following main missions and objectives:

 

  • to act as a center of R&I expertise in the fields of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, in order to :
  • enlighten the Group in these fields, and in particular participate in the elaboration of relevant roadmaps with high business impact for Global Business Units (GBUs) and other Group entities,

produce studies, algorithms, POCs, pre-industrial tools, etc. within the framework of roadmaps or directly with customers,

  • participate in multi-disciplinary projects as part of partnerships of interest to the Group (calls for projects, European projects, etc.),
  • raise the profile of CRIGEN and the Group through publications, participation in conferences and seminars, positioning in networks, and setting up academic partnerships.

As Assistant Lab Manager, you will play a central role in the management and development of the laboratory. Here is a summary of your responsibilities:

 

R&D Roadmap: You will lead the development of the laboratory's multi-year R&D roadmap. In collaboration with the program managers, you will define the priorities and strategic orientations for the coming years.

 

Offers and Portage: You are responsible for building and enriching the laboratory's offers. Your mission is to make these offers attractive and to promote them to internal and external stakeholders. You ensure that the laboratory's forward-looking vision is well communicated and understood.

 

Business Development: You play a key role in the laboratory's business development. This involves working with the Group's various entities as well as with external partners. You organize prospecting and work closely with the Business Developers.

About the team

 

Laborelec’s Solar Team, part of the Renewables & Urban Department, is leading the solar PV research and innovation roadmap for ENGIE and performs technical expertise services for the ENGIE Group and external clients. Consisting of a multidisciplinary team of experts, including PV system yield simulation experts, PV equipment experts (trackers, inverters) operational performance experts (soiling impact, monitoring) and data scientists, the team has 3 missions:

 

1.     Anticipate and test new solar technologies (such as Agri-PV and floating offshore PV) through tests in the Lab and large-scale pilot installations, including our testing facilities in northern Chile.

2.     Support ENGIE with technical insights for the development of new solar projects through written technical specifications and guidelines for ENGIE’s multi-GW PV fleet.

3.     Develop solar PV fleet-scale monitoring tools and digital solutions for improving operations.

 

These projects are often multidisciplinary, combining solar, renewable energy technologies, power network studies & measurements, cyber security, IT solutions, etc. and are therefore executed in strong interaction and collaboration with multiple teams within Laborelec.

 

 

 

What you’ll be doing

 

Your responsibilities as Solar Project Engineer

 

•       You rely on your own expertise in solar monitoring equipment and support our experts by providing the right monitoring approach for their projects.

•       You are responsible for the design, implementation and follow-up of the monitoring equipment of the outdoor Solar Lab at Laborelec, pilot sites and customer sites.

•       You ensure connectivity and data quality of the produced datasets and are familiar with data visualization and processing.

•       You understand how the envisaged outcome of our research and expertise service projects translates into the set-up of an adequate monitoring approach, equipment selection and data frame.

•       You work in close collaboration with our other solar experts, digital teams and with operational entities within ENGIE.

•       You are involved in the execution of global fleet-scale performance analyses of solar photovoltaics assets by combining advanced digital analysis tools and on-site measurements and inspections.

•       You take part in the execution of Root-Cause-Analyses of performance issues, inverter failures, tracker failures, power plant control failures, etc. often involving on-site fact-finding missions and laboratory works in collaboration with electrical equipment experts.

•       You spearhead and participate in the execution of R&D projects and Operational projects in the field of solar O&M.

•       You build close relationships with our clients, from the definition of their needs up to the delivery of a solution bringing them clear added value.

•       You effectively communicate project progress, results and references to clients and stakeholders.

Our primary task is to boost power plant reliability by analyzing and preventing damage, determining the life span of critical components and analyzing failure cases in the field. This work is complemented with long-term research and innovation projects for evolving (renewable) energy businesses and technologies.

Your responsibilities as Expert Metallic Materials

 

  • You will be involved on metal degradation and ageing issues, offering the opportunity to build up practical experience in the field and to enhance technical knowledge in one or more areas;
  • You act as technical consultant and project engineer for (complex) metal related problems and incidents. This encompasses examining customer queries, collecting the required technical information, elaborating inspection programs for on-site and lab testing, coordinating on-site interventions and lab analyses, interpreting and presenting results;
  • You work on failure and root cause analyses, and you will make recommendations to the customers in order to increase process quality, plant reliability and lifetime;
  • You will grow in your field of expertise and beyond by continuous on-the-job learning and by training opportunities;

Your mission

As a Mechanical expert, your activities will be a combination of consultancy office based work and on-site work in Power and Desalination plants:

Project Management:

    • Develop project plans to ensure successful project delivery, including timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and scope definition.
    • Monitor and report on project progress, risks, and issues and implement corrective actions as necessary.
    • Engage with stakeholders, including plant personnel, suppliers, and internal experts, to ensure clear communication and alignment on project objectives and outcomes.
    • Identify and manage project risks, including technical, financial, and operational risks, and develop mitigation strategies to minimise their impact.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and maintenance, to ensure successful project execution.

Technical Expertise :

    • Develop and manage inspection plans for equipment and material assessments, ensuring on site missions are delivered on time, within scope and budget.
    • Prepare inspection plans, perform field inspections, condition assessment, Remaining lifetime assessment and extension services, focusing on assessing conventional utility boilers / HRSG (Heat Recovery Steam Generators) pressure parts and associated equipment and preparation of the reports after on-site mission covering the findings, identifying the critical issues which might impact availability & reliability, recommendations on short term and long term basis.
    • Recommend changes in procedures, equipment, or materials as necessary to maintain and improve performance, reduce O&M costs, and increase reliability.
    • Provide technical support for plant operations and maintenance activities.
    • Provide engineering support for operating power plants with regards to performance and condition assessments, design modifications, and the upgrading and replacement of pressure part components and associated equipment.
    • Provide technical support for plant operations and maintenance activities, offering guidance on performance and condition assessments, design modifications, and the upgrading and replacing boiler/HRSG pressure part components and associated equipment.
    • Work closely with power plant personnel to understand operations & maintenance practices and their impact on boiler/HRSG performance and reliability.
    • Develop and maintain a comprehensive boiler/HRSG inspection plan for each unit, including drawings, soot blower locations, tube material information, inspection criteria for each floor/area, and pictures of typical failure mechanisms.

 

The mission implies travel across the Middle East, Asia & Turkey.

 

Qualifications

 

You have:

  • At least a four year degree in Mechanical Engineering from reputed university,  
  • A minimum of 10 years technical and/or professional experience.
  • Experience working with boiler/HRSG OEMs in engineering & field services or with Boiler/HRSG Inspection service companies
  • Knowledge of Boiler/HRSG design, operation and maintenance, 
  • Project Management
    • Proven project management skills, including the ability to develop and manage project plans, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and monitor and report on project progress.
    • Working knowledge of conventional and CCGT power plants.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and ensure timely and within-budget delivery.
  • Hands on experience in
    • Boiler/HRSG condition assessments & field services,
    • Supervision of tube leak / piping repairs / replacements
    • QA/QC follow-up
    • Supervision of Non-destructive testing – DPT/MPI, Metallography, UT-Thickness, PAUT, Boroscope etc
    • Wiring technical reports
  • Project management skills, working knowledge of conventional & CCGT power plants

About the team

 

Within the Power & Infra Business Line, the Water and Green fuel team is working on CCGT, biomass energy plants and thermal industrial boilers, performing research activities, developing global solutions and managing services to customers worldwide.

More specifically, the Green fuel team is active in the following domains of expertise:

  • Biofuels/green (e)fuels use cases, focusing on biomass conversion technologies and biogenic CO2 production,
  • Greenification of energy assets (e.g. retrofit of fossil fuel boilers to biomass),
  • Combustion of biofuels and green (e)fuels in energy plants,
  • Certification of biofuels and green (e)fuels and related regulatory aspects,
  • Safety aspects (ATEX, HAZID, HAZOP) related to biofuels and green (e)fuels, including H2,
  • Biomass supply chains,
  • Calculation of greenhouse gas emissions and savings.

The experts of the team develop a deep understanding and experience of those technical domains in order to:

  • Offer operational expertise to both power plants and industrial assets to anticipate and solve technical problems they can meet, improve their operational excellence and prepare them for future challenges. We perform consultancy like missions at our customer sites as well as troubleshooting interventions.
  • Perform research programs for ENGIE and other stakeholders, where we :
    • map, assess, test and de-risk disruptive technologies,
    • support for consolidating return of experience and standardizing practices,
    • bring Innovation for A to Z optimization through own and co-development: innovative monitoring, modelling and forecasting.

 

What you’ll be doing

 

Your responsibilities as Green Fuels and Biomass Junior/Medior Expert

 

•       You execute technical assistance tasks for the Green Fuels team under the supervision of more senior expert. Such activities may be related a.o. to biomass fuel analyses, biomass pretreatment and densification studies, biomass combustion studies, ATEX and HAZOP for safety, certification and regulatory issues for bioenergy applications etc.

•       You deepen your expertise in the green fuels activities of the team      

  • You execute and manage Research and Innovation projects to further identify, develop and unlock new promising technology developments within ENGIE,

•       You develop a strong technical network within your expertise field,

•       You start managing collaborations with partners and subcontractors,

•       You manage small to mid-size projects with good project management skills and a customer centric approach.

You might be required to intervene on site in Belgium and abroad.

•       Have good communication skills are not afraid to convince people,

About the team

 

Laborelec’s Wind Team, part of the Renewables & Urban Department, performs technical consulting services for the ENGIE Group and external clients. The team has a broad range of activities, including:

  • Defining the research roadmap and leading research programs for ENGIE
  • Testing and implementing innovative technologies to improve the design, operation and maintenance of wind farms, on-shore and off-shore, at turbine-level, farm-level as well as at fleet-level
  • Being a service provider for wind developers and operators by developing and implementing operational excellence strategies for wind assets and fleets, including digital tools, on-site inspection techniques, on-site measurement campaigns and integration of hardware solutions
  • Developing solutions to increase the valorization of wind farms, including hybridisation with storage and ancillary services
  • Evaluating new emerging technologies for offshore energy

These projects are often multidisciplinary and are therefore executed in strong interaction with multiple teams within Laborelec.

 

 

What you’ll be doing

 

Your responsibilities as Wind Specialist

As a multidisciplinary Engineer with a strong background in mechanical engineering and expertise in Wind, you will support the growing portfolio of R&I projects and operational activities of our Wind & Marine Lab, covering the following activities:

  • Through-life management of wind assets, combining real-time measurements and advanced analytics 
  • Performance and monitoring of operating wind parks, testing of new technologies and solutions
  • Precise wind resource and energy yield assessments 

 

You will work alongside a supportive team, and will have access to professional development opportunities to help you grow in your career.

 

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person with a passion for applied Research & Development and hands-on experience, able to work well independently as well as part of a team. Strongly interested in renewable energy, and wind turbine technology specifically.

  • Have a PhD or equivalent experience in a subject related to fluid mechanics applied to wind energy
  • Have experience in laboratory or field testing and mechanical design, including control and electronics
  • Have knowledge of turbulence impacts and experience with wind flow measurement techniques
  • Demonstrate experience in numerical simulations for wind energy in at least one of the following topics:
    • CFD for atmospheric flows (Reynolds-averaged and/or large-eddy simulation)
    • Numerical Weather Prediction (e.g. using WRF)
    • Wake modelling (using CFD and/or engineering wake models)
    • High-performance computing infrastructure and GPU-accelerated codes
  • Possess strong programming skills (Python / Fortran / C++ / Matlab) and data analysis
  • Communicate fluently in English, both spoken and written. Knowledge of Dutch and/or French is a plus, but not strictly required.
  • Show astrong sense of self-motivation and organizational skills
