“Renewables Energies: Stop or Go?”

ENGIE, France’s leading developer of wind and solar power, has partnered with the production company ELEPHANT to present an original documentary: “Renewables: Stop or Keep Going?” This 34-minute film, available on the TF1+ platform, invites viewers to take an objective and calm look at the challenges of renewable energy, its social acceptance, and how it is embraced by French society.

Bringing facts and verifiable information back into the debate

The debate around renewable energy is often polarized, fueled by misinformation and sometimes dogmatic positions. Yet a study conducted by the polling company Ifop for ENGIE in 2025, based on a representative sample of 12,000 people, showed that more than 8 out of 10 French citizens support renewable energy. They also express a strong need for clear information on the challenges raised by these new energy sources in order to better understand them.

Through this documentary, ENGIE aims to spark a debate grounded in concrete evidence, enabling everyone to form their own opinion. The film therefore gives a voice to a wide range of stakeholders: citizens, local associations, farmers, independent experts, ENGIE representatives, as well as international policymakers.

A diverse cast to reflect the range of issues and viewpoints

Featured contributors include Catherine MacGregor (CEO of ENGIE), William Arkwright (ENGIE), researchers such as Théodore Tallent (Sciences Po), Nicolas Richard (French Economic, Social and Environmental Council – CESE), Jérôme Fourquet (IFOP), Denis Loustau (INRAE research center), Fatih Birol (International Energy Agency), as well as engaged citizens and associations. The panel was selected to reflect the complexity of the debate, without oversimplifying or biasing it.

Why this documentary?

According to an Odoxa-Comfluence study (August 2025), 7 out of 10 French people want companies to speak up more on the issues shaping society, as they are at the heart of these transformations. As a major player in the energy transition, ENGIE is responding to this expectation by offering content that is transparent, pluralistic, and accessible.

Broadcast and access

The documentary will be available exclusively on the TF1+ platform (available with English subtitles) starting December 15, 2025. This platform choice aims to reach a broad audience and to democratize access to information on energy-related challenges.
