How to supply green AND competitively priced energy to local municipalities
Four local municipalities in Texas, New Braunfels Utilities (NBU), Denton Municipal Electric (DME), Garland Power & Light (GP&L) and the Kerrville Public Utility Board (KPUB), have teamed up to help accelerate the energy transition of their communities. Their goal? To diversify their electricity supply by purchasing long-term, competitively priced solar energy. The benefits? Supplying reliable and affordable clean energy to their citizens.
ENGIE’s solution: the biggest solar farm in the United States
The Long Draw project is perfectly aligned with the Group’s strategy, which consists of accelerating the transition to a carbon neutral economy. Thanks to the conclusion of a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) offering consistent prices, ENGIE North America has succeeded in funding and completing the Long Draw solar project on the Borden County site in Texas, which came on stream in December 2020. With an output of 225 MW of solar electricity, Long Draw is ENGIE’s biggest solar project in the United States to date. It now supplies renewable energy to all four local authorities.
Did you know?
has signed a contract for the purchase of 100 MW of solar energy per year. Denton will purchase 75 MW of capacity, Garland 25 MW of capacity and Kerrville 25 MW of capacity.
