What You Can Expect

As the Construction Health & Safety Advisor, based in Houston, TX, you will contribute to the development and implementation of a Health and Safety (H&S) Management System. This system will incorporate standards of excellence, programs, policies, procedures, and processes (4Ps) for ENGIE North America Flexible Generation (FlexGen) with a focus on supporting the Business Units construction activities. Responsible for partnering with all Project Delivery staff to influence an organizational culture that leads to an injury free working environment.

 

  • Reporting to the Director of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) your primary duties encompass:
  • Supports the formulation and advancement of a health & safety strategic plan alongside executive leadership and H&S personnel across ENGIE North America, focusing on work environments at Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) construction and Green Hydrogen sites
  • Support HSE database management and provides required monthly statistical reports to FlexGen Business Unit corporate and Business Entity executives 
  • Tracks the performance and progress of ENGIE North America action plans, programs and processes
  • Conducts regular onsite training, supervision, compliance audits, incident investigations, and safety cultural assessments
  • As directed, leads serious incident investigations into High Potential (HiPo) incidents, including those that result in a lost time accident.  Applies Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) tools when conducting investigations to determine causal factors.  Identifies countermeasures to prevent recurrence and eliminate deviations from the standard
  • Provides guidance and acts as a role model for Business Unit H&S full time professionals, site managers, front line supervisors and general foremen in the effective implementation of the 4Ps
  • Supports design of the FlexGen H&S Management System in accordance with the ISO 45001 standard. Ensures conformance to the standard results in compliance to the regulation
  • Researches new or revised OSHA regulatory requirements.  Anticipates changes and updates the 4Ps as required with follow on training for effective implementation.
  • Supports development of the FlexGen H&S budget in collaboration with the H&S team
  • Manages the selection of third-party H&S auditors, consultants and contractors
  • Demonstrates a strong track record in building positive rapport with field personnel while implementing a communication strategy that fosters leadership engagement across all levels—management to contractors—ensuring Health and Safety (H&S) is embedded as a core value, not just a priority
  • Supports implementation of observation programs that focus on pre-job/task activities while ensuring the Job Safety Plan process permeates down to the granularity of the specific task assigned.
  • Benchmarks the current state of construction-oriented safe work procedures against a “Best in Class” standard
  • Orchestrates plans to close identified gaps in coordination with FlexGen H&S team
  • Coordinates reviews of contractor safety plans and procedures to assure their standard is equal or more stringent than FlexGen safety criteria as stipulated in the procurement Terms & Conditions
  • Audits to ensure contractor H&S contractual obligations are understood and respected
  • Participates in process safety assessments on projects throughout the design phase
  • Carries out other duties as assigned

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Engineering, Business or related technical disciplines
  • Minimum seven (7) years’ experience in thermal power generation and energy distribution, and commercial/industrial construction environments
  • Subject matter expert in OSHA (US) CFR 29 Parts 1910 / 1926 and knowledge of OH&S Act (Canada) regulations
  • Exhibit mastery of root cause failure analysis tools and their application for recordable events
  • Possess superior verbal, written, interpersonal, public speaking, facilitation and presentation communication skills when interacting with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience with behavioral science and the psychology behind influencing change
  • Experience in commercial and industrial construction environments
  • Exhibit high levels of emotional intelligence as a team leader in the creation of a desire-based vs. compliance-based safety culture
  • Proficient in database management, Pareto analyses and the design of executive level dashboard / graphical displays in direct support of essential job functions
  • In-depth knowledge of the change management process
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy

 

 

Additional Details

  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 75% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
  • Occasional travel outside the US may be required
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • This position consist of 75% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and enter confined spaces as required to complete safety audits and assess job site conditions for working environment hazards.
  • Could involve some lifting

 

 

Compensation

Salary Range: $96,100 – $147,660 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

 

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
