EXCERPT – A third way
After ten years of trials in several regions of France, researchers at INRAE (the French National Institute for Agricultural, Food and Environmental Research) have shown that it is possible to farm without pesticides whilst maintaining yields similar to those of conventional farming. Crop rotation, mechanical weeding, flower strips and more resistant varieties help to minimise diseases and pests. This is a third way, between organic and conventional farming, that is based on observation, a variety of practices and adaptation to local conditions.
