Major final of the 2023 ENGIE Kite Tour in Fréjus

By ENGIE - 10 November 2023 - 11:11

After Cap d’Agde, Lorient-Gâvres and Saint-Jean-de-Monts, the ENGIE Kite Tour was in Fréjus from 10 to 12 November for the major final. This final stage gave us the winners in each of the circuit's categories. It was also an opportunity for 270 children from 9 primary school classes throughout Fréjus to come and learn about this sport. Furthermore, they got to find out about ENGIE’s “I'm learning about Energy” educational programme. This whole initiative was jointly managed by the City of Fréjus and ENGIE Solutions.

Competition and a friendly atmosphere for everyone

Organised by the Fédération Française de Voile (French federation of sailing) with support from the Association multi sports et loisirs de Fréjus (Fréjus multisport and leisure association), this final stage of the 2023 circuit was a fantastic sports event with a positive impact!

Nearly a hundred competitors visited the Fréjus Nature Base for this final stage of the 2023 circuit. As always, it was all about good-natured competition! Professional and amateur kiteboarders alike gave their all to win the title and book their place on the 2023 ENGIE Kite Tour podium. All three members of Team ENGIE (Poema Newland, Axel Mazella and Alex Caizergues), as well as the other ambassadors of the ENGIE Kite Tour (including Lauriane Nolot, Alexia Fancelli and Chris Ballois) were there to soak up the friendly atmosphere and share precious tips. Alex Caizergues distinguished himself by winning the Fréjus stage in the Directional category. And Axel Mazella won the Wingfoil category, earning him second place in the 2023 Engie Kite Tour.

Young people and the environment in the spotlight

This final stage was also an opportunity to invite Fréjus schoolchildren. 270 children from primary school classes across the city came to the Fréjus Nature Base on Friday. There was a dual purpose in this: raise the children's awareness of energy issues and introduce them to kite surfing. The children attended various fun workshops all about the environment and energy as part of the “I'm learning about Energy” programme. An excellent way to raise young people's awareness of energy issues, as well as the challenges and opportunities associated with it against a backdrop of the energy transition. It will arm them with the knowledge they need to help do what they can to safeguard and protect the environment. To teach them about kitesurfing, the children attended workshops where they got to talk to ENGIE Kite Tour ambassadors and Team ENGIE kiteboarders.

As has been the case with every stage of the ENGIE Kite Tour, a waste collection initiative was organised alongside the Fondation de la Mer on Friday afternoon involving four of the city's primary school classes. Another opportunity to let young people know just how important it is to protect the oceans.

Finally, Saturday was all about the shareholders’ club. Twenty or so shareholders from across the region got to find out about the ENGIE Kite Tour and meet two Team ENGIE athletes: Poema Newland and Axel Mazella.
