EXPO 2020 Dubai ENGIE, First Ambassador of the France Pavilion

By ENGIE - 01 October 2021 - 16:40

The World Expo in Dubai is taking place from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. As the First Ambassador of the France Pavilion, ENGIE was on-hand to unveil its innovative solutions for more sustainable and connected mobility.

The World Expo - an exceptional showcase of French savoir-faire

The World Expo is a landmark event for nations across the globe. With 180 participating nations and over 25 million visitors expected, this is the largest public event of the post-Covid era, thus making this year’s edition unlike no other. For 24 weeks, each nation will fly its flag and showcase its scientific, industrial, artistic and cultural know-how. With the motto “inspiration at the Speed of Light”, the France Pavilion offers to lead its visitors in record time along a path that highlights daring French innovations and creations. The heart of the Pavilion? The permanent exhibition, dedicated to the notion of Progress. This is where ENGIE and its partner, the Île-de-France Region, truly shine.

What does “First Ambassador” of the France Pavilion mean?

ENGIE became an “Ambassador” partner of the France Pavilion in 2019. What motivated this partnership? A shared vision combining economic performance with a positive impact on people and the planet. Together, they help strengthen the image and attractiveness of France. As stated by Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, “Putting scientific and technical innovation at the service of human progress: this is the ambition that France has wanted to embody since the Age of Enlightenment”.

An immersive journey in Île-de-France with ENGIE and the Region

Expo 2020 is a unique opportunity for ENGIE to express its vision of an international ecological and solidarity-based transition. For this reason, the Group joined forces with one of its customers, the Île-de-France Region, to provide residents with concrete solutions that are already operational in the region.
As a demonstration of the use of the Region’s digital twin, produced by Siradel (an ENGIE subsidiary) to implement new services to meet the Region’s needs, the idea was to produce a spectacular film, mixing real and 3D images projected onto an 18-metre long by 4-metre high screen for a completely immersive experience.
The film presents energy and sustainable mobility solutions implemented in Île-de-France. “Energy Transition X Sustainable Region” takes you on a journey above the Château de Versailles, on the Plateau de Saclay, to Disneyland and near the Opéra Bastille, to discover hydrogen-powered bicycles and cars, biomethane buses, electric charging stations, solar farms and smart urban lighting solutions. These smart eco-friendly solutions share a single purpose: to accelerate the trajectory towards carbon neutrality in Europe’s leading region.

« Connecting minds », France Pavilion’s thinktank

This thinktank was created in 2018 to bring substance to the Dubai World Expo debates and highlight French technologies. The thinktank’s work is documented in the “Carnets de Dubaï” in reports, videos and publications, and adds on to France Pavilion's programming. ENGIE is a member of four of the thinktank’s groups:

  • “City at 360°: an efficient ecosystem at the service of citizens”
  • “Artificial intelligence”
  • “Renewable Energies 2.0 in the regions of tomorrow”
  • “Purpose and managerial innovation”
