Securing and optimizing access to energy
ENGIE continuously ensures the balance between demand and available resources by buying and selling energy under the best economic conditions.
We manage nearly 60 GW of power generation assets, owned by ENGIE and by other companies, to ensure that energy is produced and delivered to our customers efficiently, reliably and at the right time.
Our action is based on three main levers.
- We optimize the use of generation assets (solar, wind, hydropower, batteries and gas) by mobilizing each installation at the most appropriate time according to system needs, weather conditions and market signals.
- We ensure security of supply by anticipating disruptions and providing immediate solutions in case of unforeseen events – whether a technical failure, a sudden surge in demand or extreme weather conditions.
- Finally, we balance production and consumption in real time. We continuously monitor demand and adjust our operations and purchases so that energy is available where it is needed, without surplus or shortage.
ENGIE carries out these three activities across electricity, natural gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), biomethane, biomass and environmental products (instruments and services linked to the energy and climate transition, such as renewable electricity certificates, guarantees of origin or carbon credits), serving both B2B activities (for businesses, industries and local authorities) and B2C activities (for residential customers).

Tailor-made solutions
Thanks to our multi-energy expertise and global presence, we support companies in managing their energy supply and accessing energy markets.
We facilitate access to physical and financial electricity and gas markets and offer tailored hedging strategies. These consist of securing in advance all or part of the energy price or volumes for a client, in order to limit the impact of market volatility and help them better manage operations and budgets in an uncertain energy environment. ENGIE’s expertise is regularly recognized internationally, notably through the Energy Risk Awards and the Energy Risk Commodity Rankings.
This support relies on EGMA (ENGIE Global Market Access), our digital platform providing secure and direct access to energy markets, as well as on our expertise in energy engineering and risk management.
We design tailor-made solutions for each client, taking into account their needs, risk profile and geographic footprint, while adhering to rigorous standards of safety and reliability.
We also offer low-carbon energy supply solutions, such as PPAs and BPAs, which help secure energy over the long term while supporting the development and value creation of renewable generation assets. Beyond supply, our role is to anticipate uncertainties and adjust energy flows accordingly in order to ensure continuous energy availability.
We also continue to innovate with the development of our renewable electricity supply offer, 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy, which goes beyond annual green energy sourcing. This offer aligns a site’s electricity consumption hour by hour with generation from dedicated, local renewable and flexible assets. It therefore guarantees traceable electricity while contributing to the resilience of energy systems.
Upstream PPAs to secure energy producers’ revenues
We help companies owning energy assets secure, enhance and optimize their performance in constantly evolving markets. We structure and manage upstream PPAs – power purchase agreements concluded directly with producers upstream of energy markets. These agreements enable producers to secure revenues, reduce exposure to price volatility and facilitate project financing, particularly for renewable assets.
