What You Can Expect

The Project Developer supports a broad range of pre-construction development activities on projects within ENGIE’s utility-scale renewable energy projects across the United States and Canada. This role involves assisting the development team with all aspects of early to late-stage project development, such as permitting, stakeholder engagement, public hearings, environmental site assessment, and project financing due diligence.

The Project Developer collaborates with land and greenfield teams, interconnection experts, as well as pre-construction, engineering, and project delivery to fulfill the company's renewable energy goals and growth strategy for wind, solar, and storage project development in North America. The Project Developer will support the development team to:

  • Support Development Activities: Manage and drive development of utility-scale solar, wind, and storage projects from feasibility to construction, including environmental assessments, permitting, interconnection, land acquisition, and design
  • Collaborate with Experts: Work closely with land and greenfield teams, interconnection experts, and departments such as pre-construction, engineering, and project delivery to achieve renewable energy goals
  • Engage Stakeholders: Engage with consultants, landowners, and stakeholders, attend public hearings, and ensure effective communication throughout the development process
  • Research and Compliance: Stay updated on industry developments, tax incentives, and technologies; manage permit applications and interactions with local, state, and federal agencies, including Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) submittals, and remain abreast of renewable energy opportunities and industry trends
  • Financial and Administrative Support: Develop project model underwriting assumptions, support off-take origination efforts, financing, and Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) discussions, prepare investment materials, and review pro forma financial models to understand how returns are impacted, and maintain database tracking project progress

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental, Business Administration, Finance, Energy, Economics, or a related field of study in which you have project development, permitting/planning, project management, or business development experience
  • Minimum two (2) years related experience, in renewable energy development or other project development fields, with the ability to navigate permitting processes and community involvement
  • Skilled in project management with the ability to multi-task and prioritize critical path tasks effectively
  • Highly capable of working constructively and maintaining good relationships with public officials and agencies
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to present to diverse audiences, including landowners, potential off-takers, government officials, and corporate leaders
  • Motivated self-starter, results-oriented, detailed professional who proactively pursues information and works well with geographically dispersed, cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment

Additional Details

  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy

Compensation

Salary Range: $86,100 – $132,020 USD annually

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

What You Can Expect
ENGIE North America is hiring a Battery Storage Technician for our Five Wells Solar / Storage project located near Rogers, TX.   

Your daily responsibilities begin with performing High Voltage (HV) switching, substation, and HV equipment lockouts and grounding tasks. Demonstrate the consistent use of Root Cause Failure Analysis techniques when solving plant abnormalities and equipment failures. You will manage documentation, update parts inventory, and as well as submit on-site status reports, including daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports, and initiate work orders for equipment repairs. Perform routine inspections such as, prepare oil analysis samples, safely using tools (e.g hot sticks, multimeter, and IR Camera). Assist with equipment operation training for contractors and other site employees. Manage and coordinate work on-site between different contractors, vendors and BESS service providers ensuring quality work, is completed safely and promptly.

 

In this role your key responsibilities everyday will be:

  • You may be required to assist solar technicians with repairing, troubleshooting, and completing technical repair work orders for solar inverters as needed
  • Actively participate in the behavior-based safety program and ensure every team member and contractor complies with all safety procedures and applicable task-oriented job safety analyses
  • Ensure site safety rules are communicated and adhered to through Site-Specific Orientations, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and Meetings
  • Demonstrate procedural compliance in all site operation and maintenance activities by utilizing established procedures
  • Ensure site equipment is kept at the highest possible standard maximizing availability, reliability, efficiency, and profitability
  • Perform electrical testing using appropriate PPE and procedures
  • Perform the housekeeping functions and equipment cleaning necessary to maintain the site in a clean and neat condition
  • Recommend operating and/or maintenance changes that will enhance plant performance and availability


What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum High School Diploma/GED or a diploma in a technical program where you have learned AC/DC current, electrical theory, understand reading blue prints and schematics, industrial electrical equipment including breaker, disconnects, transformers, contactors
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in any or BESS sites, Solar generation sites, Wind generation sites, Thermal power plants, Manufacturing or Mining operations, or Controls & Instrumentation Maintenance
  • Proficient in using and maintaining SCADA systems
  • Capacity to be on call as deemed necessary by supervisor

  • This is a field position requiring daily travel to client site(s)
  • Must be available to travel domestically to support other support operations at other ENGIE Renewable Generation ( Solar, Wind and Storage sites

Compensation

This Environmental Development and Permitting Intern role is an opportunity to work with a Global Leader in Renewables Development. The Environmental Intern will work to support ENGIE’s Development Pipeline in North America and help to ensure that Projects are following best management practices (BMPs) to minimize environmental impacts and maximize biodiversity value of commercial-scale Renewables Projects.

In this role the Intern will support biodiversity studies, surveys, and micrositing efforts to minimize wildlife and wetland impacts, and support the Senior Advisor on compliance obligations, preparing development projects for construction-stage efforts, and support the pursuit of federal and state permits where necessary. The Intern will have the opportunity to coordinate with a variety of cross-functional teams, including Legal, Land Use, and Engineering obligations.

  • Complete assigned training and follow all ENGIE safety procedures (9 Life Saving Rules)
  • Attend and participate in internal and external meetings, and site visits to wind and/or solar sites
  • Communicate using email, TEAMS meetings and phone calls

2. BACKGROUND

 

ENGIE Southern African is seeking Biodiversity Monitors for the Golden Valley Wind Farm near Bedford in the Eastern Cape Province. The primary responsibility of this position is to conduct operational bird and bat monitoring at the wind facility. The program is inclusive of bird and bat monitoring, fatality searches, searcher efficiency trials and carcass persistence trials, adhering to standardized protocols as trained, being part of a small field crew and keeping detailed datasheets.  If required, this position may require the implementation of the Shut Down on Demand (SDOD) protocol.  Preference would be given to candidates residing at Somerset East, Adeleide, Cookhouse and Bedford in the  Eastern Cape.

 

3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Assist with environmental monitoring scope of work at Golden Valley Wind Farm. 
  • Conduct bird and bat monitoring. 
  • Conduct surveys on foot (up to 15 km per day) in potentially adverse weather conditions and record data. 
  • Conduct visual surveys of bird flight activity and advise/alert a control room when specific bird species approach too close to wind turbines in accordance with a specific protocol. 
  • Search for dead or injured birds and bats on foot in amongst vegetation under wind turbines. 
  • Conduct bird observations for extended periods of time (up to 40 hours per week) to record behaviour and flight patterns. 
  • Operate a camera and Global Positioning System (GPS) and record details of carcasses found, and observations made. 
  • Follow instructions from the Supervisor and collect precise and thorough data. 
  • Prepared to work in shifts that will result in working over the weekend when required. 

 

 

 

5. EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Diploma in natural conservation will be an advantage. 
  • Matric Certificate/Grade 12.
  • Computer literate (especially MS Word and Excel), ability to work with electronic data collection protocols and data submission timing requirements; 
  • A valid driver’s license, with at least 2 years driving experience. 
  • Candidates who have previous field experience with birds and/or bats monitoring will be preferred. 
  • Ability to identify local bird and/or bat species. 
  • Firefighting Certificate; 
  • First-Aid Certificate; 
  • Experience in the use of the camera, binoculars, topographic maps, GPS units, and other field equipment.

4. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Health and Safety

The Plant manager is fully responsible for Health and Safety of personnel, contractors and visitors on the site, at all times.

  • Drives implementation of Engie's 5 safety behaviours

 

  • Create awareness and implementation of Engie 9-lifesaving rules

 

  • Coordinates Emergency Response on incidents and threats

 

  • Manages the HSE personnel on site for implementation and monitoring of HSE performance

 

  • Ensures site security is in place an functioning adequately to protect the asset and people.

 

  • Works with local police and security companies to reduce crime risk at the asset.

 

Asset Performance

The Plant Manager oversees the daily operation and maintenance of the asset, ensuring optimal availability and performance.

  • Oversees and coordinates the work of the Operating and maintenance contractors/teams.

 

  • Drives the return to service (RTS) of any plant and equipment resulting in loss of production.

 

  • Drives the root cause analysis on any plant faults causing unwanted downtime.

 

  • Identifies plant and operating cost optimization opportunities.

 

  • Ensures grid code compliance (GCC) at all times.

 

  • Where applicable, manages the maintenance and operation of owner's metrological stations.

 

  • Ensures production forecasting is done as required under the PPA.

 

  • Notifies the Buyer / CPA of any grid events and supports the relevant Deemed Energy Payment (DEP) claim compilation.

 

  • Records and reports all insurable and claimable events.

 

  • Reviews and monitors the plant spare parts inventory and works with contractors and/or procurement department to replenish spares.

 

  • Ensures up to date maintenance schedules are in place and followed to ensure optimal availability and reliability.

 

  • Ensure timely checking of monthly production tariff meter readings for invoicing to the Buyer..

 

 

Social, ED and Stakeholder Management

The Plant manager is the company's primary representative in the local community and takes responsibility for stakeholder management in the local community and for implementation of the social and enterprise development programs.

 

  • Where unions are present, lead open and clear communication with such unions and associations with assistance of the social team and others as necessary

 

  • Ensure development of a stakeholder map and associated mitigation plans which is reviewed on a frequent basis.

 

  • Oversees the implementation of social and enterprise development programs - guided by the Social/ESG department.

 

  • Supports the ED department to obtain information from contractors regarding ED compliance obligations.

 

  • Identifies opportunities for ED optimization together with Social and ED teams.

 

  • Interfaces with the local authorities as required regarding the project site and resources.

 

  • Maintains a cordial relationship with the land owner and acts as the company representative on land related matters. Must be familiar with the terms included in the Land Lease Agreement in order to effectively manage the land lease agreement ensuring good relationships are fostered with the land owners.

 

  • Coordinates with neighbouring power plants and industries with regards to relevant issues.

 

Site, Water, Buildings and Roads

The Plant manager is fully responsible for the overall site in terms of access, security and upkeep.

  • Defines and manage the annual site, road and building maintenance activities.

 

  • Manages the water supply and waste water removal from site

 

  • Coordinates contractors for the removal of waste and provision of utilities as required for the site operations.

 

  • Recommends upgrades and improvements where needed to ensure safe ergonomic working conditions.

 

  • Coordinates the site transport arrangements to ensure safe and efficient operation.

 

Reporting

The Plant Manager ensures that performance on all of the areas of responsibility happens on a frequent basis as might be required by shareholders, lenders and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Attends and oversee daily production meetings

 

  • Works with head office monitoring room to ensure optimal monitoring of asset performance

 

  • Coordinates with operator regarding any gaps in performance data

 

  • Reviews contractor reports and coordinates with monitoring room regarding accuracy. Ensures all reports are uploaded timeously

 

  • Provides inputs and manages all site related reports to ensure it is submitted on time and in good quality to the relevant stakeholder.

 

  • Presents plant performance data on weekly and monthly calls to the AMEA regional group.

 

  • Ensure incident reporting happens according to head-office requirements.

 

 

 

Budget and Procurement

 

The Plant Manager controls the annual budget for the site and oversees all expenditure against this budget and must effectively work towards maintaining or improving the budgetary expenditure forecasted during Operations .

  • Compiles the annual budget for site operating cost

 

  • Manages the procurement of all site related services and equipment with support from procurement department.

 

  • Creates Purchase orders and coordinates timeous invoicing by suppliers.

 

 

People Management and Growth

 

Manages the performance and growth of all site based personnel.

  • Creates annual performance goals and targets.
  • Manages underperforming resource with HR support.
  • Drives recruitment of open positions with HR support.
  • Plays an active leadership role on site guiding people to best practice.

 

 

 

5. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Education

  • University Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
  • Relevant Management qualification (MDP)

Language

What you will do:

  • You will contribute to market prospecting by providing consultancy on energy networks as well as on optimal access to them, in the context of identifying new renewable energy projects.
  • You will manage the documentation necessary to obtain access to electrical networks for new development projects, from project initiation to the completion of the execution phase (COD), and, if necessary, you will attend the meetings with state authorities.
  • You will organize, under the guidance of the Grid Access Manager, the meetings and documents necessary for the development of each project.
  • You will continuously monitor the impact of the evolving economic, political, regulatory and technological context on investments and projects of TSO (Transmission System Operator)/ DSO (Distribution System Operator).
  • You will collaborate with DSO, TSO, and stakeholders throughout the entire project lifecycle for connection/ access to the network: from the authorization and access stage to the construction completion stage.
  • You will manage the relationship with internal or external consultants on topics such as: solution analysis, planning and authorization of transformer stations, transformers, transfer stations, and aspects related to cable routes, technical evaluation, and preparation of the work register.
  • You will support the project team by analysing risks and defining the necessary preventive/ corrective actions for network access, in order to meet project deadlines.
  • You will obtain approvals from DSO and TSO for network access, in accordance with the company's strategy.
  • You will provide technical and commercial analyses regarding offers and contracts related to network connection works.
  • You will monitor the schedule and stages of the projects you manage.
  • You will support the procurement team during negotiations and tenders for network access services and works.
  • You will ensure periodic reporting/ presentations for monitoring and controlling activities related to access to electrical networks.

 

Desired education, expertise, and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical field: Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering;
  • Experience working with HV/MV power systems;
  • Good knowledge of regulatory framework;
  • Knowledge of project management methodology;

YOUR CHALLENGE

 

  • Provide technical support during the construction phase to enhance efficiency and reduce extra work and costs.
  • Support operations and maintenance of large-scale renewable projects (wind turbines) to maximize power generation and asset availability, while optimizing O&M costs.

What You Can Expect
As the Ecological Restoration / Vegetation Management Advisor you will ensure that ecological restoration and vegetation management strategies are developed, implemented and effectively maintained across all ENGIE Renewables sites responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Keep up to date with innovation and industry best practices and acting as subject matter expert in relation to ecological restoration, vegetation management, agrivoltaics (such as sheep grazing), pollinator habitat and other related activities
  • Ensure sites remain compliant with regulatory requirements, planning consents and land lease obligations along with any other such requirements. Including the tracking and closure of consent and licensing conditions
  • Conduct ecological restoration related fieldwork, including assessment of site conditions, noxious weed mapping, storm water pollution prevention planning, auditing of restoration works and restoration monitoring to ensure compliance with regulations and safety standards.
  • Work closing with teams across development, construction and operations and maintenance to develop ecologically minded site restoration strategies / specifications, including seed mixes, biodiversity enhancements, monitoring protocols, and vegetation maintenance plans for use during a project’s planning, construction, and operations phases
  • Draft technical memos and reports, along with other project support materials as needed
  • Identification and assessment of suitably qualified and experienced vegetation management contractors, drafting of scopes along with the tendering, letting and day to day management of contracts
  • Communicate effectively regarding the scope and schedule of restoration and vegetation management activities to be performed, onsite along with ongoing monitoring and maintenance required by site teams
  • Assessment and approval of weed abatement treatments for use on site including pesticides and herbicides

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in restoration ecology, natural resource management, environmental science, conservation biology, or ecology. With a minimum of seven (7) years post education experience in vegetation management and/or ecological restoration
  • Must possess strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work independently and interact professionally and respectfully with project managers, site managers, contractors, landowners, and regulatory bodies

 

Additional Details

  • This role will be based in the Houston, TX office
  • Must be willing and able to travel domestically with United States and Canada 30% to visit sites, company meetings, events and training
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; ability to drive to site locations
  • Must have and be able to maintain a valid passport
  • The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable working in the office or in the field in various weather conditions and terrains and have a passion for the outdoors

Compensation
Salary Range: $99,000 – $160,000 USD annually 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
